New 300d owner

I just scored a 1984 Mercedes 300D for $1000. It has 231K on it but motor runs good and rust is minimal for an East Coast car. Floors, fenders and quarters are solid. There's a little rust in front of the rear wheel wells that I'm going to fix "half assed" style. All the windows and sunroof work. AC doesn't work but the owner didn't mess with it. The back seat has the optional headrests which I have never seen before. I have some Euro bumpers and chrome vents to add to the exterior. I know it's an 84 but I'm going to swap the rims for steelies with OEM hubcaps because I cannot stand these aluminum wheels.

Nice score. Since Cash 4 Clunkers, it's been hard to get anything that runs and drives for a grand in northern Nevada.

I had one of those! A prince of a highway car. I had almost no issues with it until my second daughter plowed it into a block of concrete hidden in tall grass. End of car.

It did suck mightily in town though. The acceleration was abysmal. But once accustomed to its sluggardly ways I learned to drive it like an aged grand duchess.

I highly recommend w124's for learning drivers. They have steel and inertia on their team. I'd put a w124 against a modern Suburban for city accident survivability of driver.

I've never seen rear headrests like those before. Interesting.
