Nine steps to perfect health
Interesting read. I've been experimenting more and more with Paleo diet (an attempt to roughly approximate hunter gatherer diet) and the adding of quality fats to the diet in place some of the carbohydrate component.
I've been doing a thing with resistant starch, it's a type of starch/carbo that makes it intact to the large intestine where it feeds and enhances the good bacteria that is partly responsible for keeping us alive. Anyway I was researching some stuff online about that and ran onto this: https://33q47o1cmnk34cvwth15pbvt120l-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/9-Steps-To-Perfect-Health.pdf

Not to long ago i read that with all our advancement in medicine,Our cousins the chimpanzee's lifespan is still close to our's.For one thing, they don't eat red meat, and no processed sugar.
The best diet would be to join a troop of bonobo chimps.

Mostly we still stick objects into each other in war, though faster than arrows. We can also vaporize billions,or kill with gamma rays.

The notion that chimps are vegetarians was discarded as incorrect about 40 years ago. They most certainly do eat meat from many species. Colubus (sp?) monkeys being the most frequent prey if I remember correctly.

The wild cattle in Europe long ago, like buffalo are good to eat.The cows we breed over the years contain alot of things that cause cancer.I have a friend that blended Chicken feed for Tyson's.Feathers, bone, parts, and blood, are mixed into feed.So chickens eat chicken,I would not doubt calves eat cow also.Wild game is your safest bet for meat.Goat, and sheep are good also, and their milk.

Factory farming is generally worrisome territory IMO. I think the 'cows eating cows' thing was stopped after the 'mad cow'problems. I gather they were very tempted to do something with with the mountains of cow entrails etc. that steadily accumulated. Not a good idea obviously, feeding steers/cows a type of food they never ate over millions of years of evolution. Birds are at least somewhat omnivorous, at least they eat insects. But the sort of feed you describe for chickens is not appealing.
I've been eating more beef than I used to, I only buy grass fed, of course you're taking it on faith that it is indeed grass fed. There's a grass fed farm in the Mt. Shasta area that has outlets in the Bay Area, a bit more spendy than normal. Trader Joe's also has grass fed beef, IIRC the label says Australia, Uruguay, or the US. Who knows Word I've read is that grass-fed has some omega-3 fatty acids whereas grain fed has very little. I of course wouldn't know an omega-3 fatty acid if somebody rubbed some of it on my fore head but word is that it's good to shoot for 30% omega-3's, and the rest omega 6, the latter being more common in most foods. Dr. Hyman got me off of peanut butter, he says the 3 to 6 balance is not good. Almond butter is supposed to be better. I've tried vegetarianism and raw food-ism in the past. I can understand the moral component of meat eating, on the other hand I gather that some researchers believe that it was eating of meat and cooked food that enabled we humans to develop our big brains. Both supposedly being more efficient means of securing nutrients.

There are no short cuts. There is no secret. Good health is mainly a throw of the dice. One can however improve the odds with diet and exercise. Wacky diets don't count.

My doctor told me that the best way to insure good health was to choose your grandparents well.

Are these the same 9 steps? I didn't read your link. I am a little PDfobic these days. One of things mentioned in the page I linked is "heal the gut". Gut Biome or microbiome is one of the areas where US healthcare/medicine is greatly lacking. Almost totally oblivious to. Standards for "grass fed" cattle were largely a voluntary compliance deal in the past. Not sure about today but I am skeptical as always. I sure pissed off some people here in the past over this one. |

There are a number of studies that show truly grass fed and grass finished beef to be as high in Omega 3 fatty acids as wild salmon. The catch is, as stated above, there is NO legal definition for "grass fed". Some producers raise their beef on grass, but finish it with grain. I recently read one study that indicated that even a couple of weeks' worth of grain finishing negates the health benefits of grass feeding. Retailers can pretty much call any beef "grass fed", as virtually all cattle, at some point in their lives, eat grass.
Best to know your supplier personally. Or buy Argentine or Australian beef. Neither country allows the CAFO feedlot paradigm and all their beef is 100% grass fed. Same for lamb. American lamb, unless you're buying from a small farmer, is finished in much the same way feedlot beef is. Aussie/ NZ lamb is grass fed.

Thank you for the link. It was a good and informative read overall. One can always pic nits, should one want, but the main goals are to eat less food with poor nutrient content, get more physical activity and exercise, which are important distinctions. Also reduce stress, and increase time for personal pleasure. These all contribute to making a healthier life. My favorite is by being more physically active every day and also taking a daily walk. There are also many ways to increase ones sources of pleasure. This goes a long way to reduce stress and I’d dare say to increase happiness at the same time.

"Chimps are omnivores and eat not only fruits, nuts, seeds, blossoms, and leaves but many kinds of insects and occasionally, the meat of medium-sized mammals. Chimpanzees, like humans, have such diverse tastes that they are able to live in a wide variety of habitats, unlike gorillas and orang-utans which have more specialised diets in the wild." red meat
what i should have said is our domesticated animals, except for sheep and goats.I had read a articale about cows meat, and milk contains something harmful for man. Its because we breed them over thousands of years to eat certain grains. The original extinct cattle which where twice as large were healthy for us.Buffaloe is,as Deer ,Elk,and Moose.Goat Milk which I raised all my children on because there lactose intolerant made them healthy. So Chimps, with the exception of germs in monkey meat, would be alright.
Long time ago I read a book called dead Doctor's don't lie.It talked about how farmland soil has been overworked, nothing left in it.And oil based fertilizers, swell plants to hold more water,to look larger, but contain cancer causing chemicals.
