Uber: Check Aborted landing.. Check

Took my first Uber ride. We are taking an extended vacation and we did not want to leave our car at the airport for 2 weeks. I was not sure what to expect. We made our reservation a few days ago but never got a confirmation or anything. Woke up this morning at 4a and still nothing. Pick up was from 5:15-530a. At about 5:12 .....ding..... your ride is 13 min away. Deriki was really nice. Loaded our luggage, very nice and pleasant. The car was clean. The ride was 25 min long and ran us $26. We gave him a $10 tip. Pretty sure that would be cheaper than a cab and much more pleasant.

First flight was on American Eagle to JAX. Got there early but there was fog and limited visibility. Apparently the radar from the airport was down and the lights for visual landing were also down. They got permission to land but visibility closed down as we were on final. I hear a few dings in the cockpit and all of a sudden hear the engines spool up and the landing gear retract and off we go. We did a fly around and landed on the 2nd try.

Don't tell Husky that not a single passenger panicked or had to be subdued. We had meal service in First class and it was a very nice flight. Took a short hop to MIA were we are now waiting for our flight to Milan. I have 2.5 hrs to kill. Hanging out in the Admirals club watching the planes.

I drove a Cab for a couple of days which of course had a meter. How does Uber calculate your Fee?

I briefly looked at the Uber site out here and they said you had to have a Car 2001 or newer and said that some Cities required 2006 or newer.

Started using Uber in Dubai and have had a very good experience overall.

Sometimes the cars are dirty of smell of Indian food, but would rather choose these than a taxi in Dubai —cabbies have no GPS and are not trained to memorize streets and routes.

I use uber quite a bit and have had generally good experiences. From my home to the airport it's $35 for a ride in an Accord or Camry or $65 in a midsize SUV. This compares to around $100 for a town car and $125 or more for a Suburban limo. I don't use taxis because the vehicles are too beat and the drivers too crazy. That said the experience is a bit variable. Had an uber xl ride to dfw in which the three of us and luggage barely fit into the little Mitsubishi SUV. On the way home from that trip we used the same uber service, same price, and got a black Suburban with leather captains chairs, a cooler of bottled water, etc.

Uber works in many places, which is nice. This past fall the spouse and I found ourselves in Vienna at the end of a bike tour. We walked a couple of kilometers across town to a concert, taking in the sights along the way. After the concert we fired up Uber, and a nice young man picked us up in a pristine w211 E220 and drove us across town back to the hotel for all of 7 euros.

I'm a relatively new user but I now have a few cases where I have taken a cab one way and uber back from my destination, and each time the cab has been more than twice the price. I'm a fan.

I have yet to try an Uber.
I did experience an aborted landing once. We were practically on the ground when we suddenly shot back up and did a loop around. There was no adverse weather and they never said why. There was probably a plane in the way or something and they didnt want to freak anyone out.
