Internet accessed personal transportation apps?

I need to get a lift from Weatherford, TX, to catch the Texas Railway shuttle back to Dallas, in downtown Fort Worth, TX this coming week. A distance of like 20 miles. What are the personal transportation apps to find livery for a short trip like this?

I believe Uber and Lyft are the popular ones. Never tried either.

I used Uber to get a ride to DFW last week. The trip was 13 miles. Pick up at 6am on Dec 24th. Really nice driver, clean new car (Nisan Altima). Total cost was $26.

Also took Uber from Roma Termi (Rome) to our apt and from Gare Du Nord (Paris) to our apt. No issues.

Uber has yet to fail me. Mexico, US, Europe, Canada - always reasonably priced with good service.

Google maps has a function where you can look up different transportation options to get an idea of time and cost (walking vs public transport vs driving vs ride sharing.)

I used Google here in Paris. Pretty cool. I hit the train opion and it showed me where the metro was, what train to use, how long it would take and all the the necessary details. Very helpful.

Thanks, guys, for taking the time to respond here.

I'll let you know how it goes.

BTW, a couple weeks back I was waiting on a DART (Dallas AreaRapidTransit) bus on Elm Street in downtown Dallas the other night, and a 05/06 E320 CDI Lyft driver picked up a fare right in front of me. Pretty neat seeing an old CDI used on that capacity. I overheard the lady ask if it was Lyft, when she opened the right rear door. The CDI had been idling about a minute before she came up.

Uber is very convenient. Use it a lot for work, when I have to pick up or return a car or truck and don't want to park my personal car on the street for days somewhere in Hollywood. The quickest time I was picked up was 30 seconds or less, the moment I looked up from my phone he was there. And if you use UberPool you hardly pay anything.

The hipster feel it had in the beginning of Uber is pretty much gone, now most drivers in my area are old taxi drivers. Some are even demanding a tip...

One option, in your case a very bad one, would be Greyhound. Very limited schedules and they would drop you off at the station in Downtown Fort Worth. I am sure you know it is then a walk of several blocks to the train station.

In the cold.

Uber might cost a few bucks more but they are there when you want them and will drop you right at the train station. And the operator can pick up a few fares in Fort Worth before heading back home.

We tend to think of Uber as a taxi service but in your situation they are almost serving as a stand-in for the old interurban service.

Well, here's one for the books, that I desperately need help with, guys:

In trying to clear off notification of this or that app not being password complete on my Samsung Galaxy4 smart phone from Straight Talk, I deleted the Google Play Store App, that downloads new apps to my Smart Phone!

I still have the Google Play Store icon, but it no workey! Hence, no ability to download any new apps, including Uber, etc!

Q: since many apps were installed & included, as Google Play Store app, was installed in the smart phone from new, how do I reload the factory spec. apps?

I didn't mean to permanently remove the Google Play Store app, but it does nothing now, and, when I Google to an app's free download website? When I click on it, it just brings me back to my Smart Phone's general navigation home window.

Any help on getting it back much appreciated!

On my cellphone under Settings is Back up And Reset. I can reset to factory settings. Perhaps yours has something similar. Good luck.

You old guys are overwhelmed by this newfangled technology. See if eBay can hook you up with an analog StarTac...

Stopped in to the Best Buy near me, and the SAMSUNG corral guy fixed my Smart Phone back. He even helped me get a new g-mail email address/account from scratch, to avoid some of the aggravating notifications I was getting, when I accidentally on purpose turned off my Google Play Store icon/access to download new APPS!

All good now!!

If this is your first smart phone, you will never go back. For example get comfortable pressing the verbal Google icon and ask it questions - like "What is the temperature?" You will get instant responses. Today I just asked it how old Andy Griffith was when he died and it told me he was 86.

What an incredible tool.

Or ask it to take you to a certain address and it will do so. Forget the old TomTom.

You cannot hurt it; just get comfortable trying different things.
