How to disembark from a ferry
|
Yikes! No such things like a chain or netting across the stern used or required in NZ? Or even wood chocks behind the rear wheels of the last vehicle in line?
|
Oopsie!

I'd make a joke about that sinking feeling when... but man, that sinking feeling!
|
Never too late to bring back the Amphicar...
|
who leaves their car in gear? That sucks.
|
An episode like that would really put your day off. There it was gone comes to mind.

A couple of years ago I saw a video of a boat, maybe a tugboat, that seemed to drift down to a bridge, then sink completely underwater and get pushed under the bridge, and then come upright again - and the smoke was still coming from the smokestacks.
Never knew whether it was real or not. With what folks do with Photoshop nowdays I hardly believe anything unless seen with my own eyes. Found it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYzpK3VqNXg Called Boat under bridge. |
Yep that tugboat was real. Any canoeist knows never to get sideways up against an obstacle in moving current.
We're heading to Australia in a few months on a camper swap and we plan to be on that same ferry with a Land Cruiser our swappers are providing us with. Hope we have a successful crossing to Fraser Island. |
I worked on a ferry during summers in college. When parking cars on the freight deck, we always told drivers to leave their xmissions in park or in gear. We always chocked tires on the first on the bow & last on the stern every trip.
Never trust a parking brake. Never leave a vehicle in neutral on a ferry. The driver did both. How many owners ever use a parking brake? |
I use them every time I park or nearly so. But then I live on a steep hill and have had more than one car or truck roll down the hill backwards in front of my house.
Or you could roll downhill into either of my two garage doors....my SIL did on one of ours. The other door got crunched when one of my daughters came in with failed front brakes on my 64 studebaker and slid the back tires right into the garage door which was then pushed against my 59 Ferrari which got knocked off its jack stands. No real significant damage to the cars but a new door was required.;) |
So, Kerry - take some chocks.
Will your subsequent posts sound like Croc Dundee? |
