Ok, that sending unit did not pan out. It was wrong. I returned it for full credit though. Now a couple of days ago I was driving the mitsu because the VW was in for service and there was this fairly loud rattle. Finally I stopped and remembered to look in back for the source of the noise....nothing back there, so I looked at the rear wheels thinking a shock might have come adrift. On the right side I found a loose shock....the bolt was not off though....worse....much worse. The frame has a rusty hole in it big enough to put both hands through side by side.

So I went to the mitsu forum, autotrader, cars.com and looked for a mitsu, hoping to find one with a bad motor and no rust.(dream on). I found not one for sale at any price or in any condition (forgot to check ebay).

So my Indie, John suggested repairing the frame. Not bad idea as the moving of the plow to another truck would cost from 500 to 1000 labor. Today the repair guy estimated it will take $1000 to fix or replace it from teh front of the leaf spring shackle to the back of the other shackle.

I guess I'll wait though as if I sell my building I might not be in the snow plowing business any more....and check ebay.

So now I just got through a process of fixing some fuel issues and rusty frame on the other side. I looked and looked for alternatives and finally decided if I put money into making it safe I would get back a lot of it when I sell it whereas if I don't fix it it is worth nearly nothing.

I've been using it the last week or so and have decided to get the other hole in the floor and rockers repaired so I can keep using it.

Post Fuel Sender Blues

So then ;

What was the fix ? .

I've been cleaning and re using W123 Diesel fuel gauge senders for a while now but as they age out they tend to get inaccurate ~ the low fuel lamp comes on far too early now .

I just ran my '82 240D to 519 miles, the low fuel lamp was on since 402 miles .

I made a sharp hard right turn into a parking lot and by the time I was parked the engine began to sputter a bit, I had a one gallon spare can of Diesel in the trunk. added it and motored to the filling station where I added 21.6 gallons to fill it back up again .

I'm tired of plying musical fuel senders and will prolly just remember to fill it @ 400 miles from now on .

I didn't do anything except replace the steel which supported the back of the tank where it had rusted well and good. I was astonished when it worked again.
