Will robots take your job?

http://www.willrobotstakemyjob.com

Will robots take your job? I'm in pretty good shape at 4.2% but it's something that a lot of people do actually have to worry about.

Also feel free to move this to politics, I could see it straddling the line, but trying to keep it out of there...

1.1% for me and .9% for the Mrs. We will both be leaving the "formal" workforce within the next 4 years.

I offered it to them but the lazy bastids refused it!

Hah! 73% Good freaking luck finding a robot to diagnose and repair diesel engines out in the middle of nowhere.

Couldn't find a listing for "retired bum going to college to find another profession to retire from" which is my present vocation.

Generally automation will implement faster than expected. The cost factor has come down substantially. Most automation equipment will be produced in the orient.

Primarily because the American government let non labor intensive high tech manufactures locate their production there. The Chinese gave them free factories and low overhead to entice them. Trump or the American government can never recover those operations as the Chinese would not allow it.

General efficiencies even without total automation have been steadily improving as well. Look at a modern assembly line for the ford F150 trucks. You could be lonely in many areas of it. There are videos out there to look at yourself. Ford cannot want to go to Mexico to save on assembly labor costs.

They want much lower physical plant costs. Plus even cheaper parts that they source in Mexico or own parts producers there. In 1962 when light trucks where about two thousand dollars. The production lines where full of workers and the parts where made inside the country.

The trucks are much better today but the retail cost factor is 25 times higher. Except when it breaks after warranty. The repairs on average will be even greater multiples of cost.

I should have changed my answer to "cyborg overlord" and I may have gotten even better.

Lots of robots have taken my job. As of one week ago today I have enjoyed my hard earned and reasonably well funded retirement for one year. Since many robots have been taken out of service, they have the same job as myself.

Seriously though with people demanding $15 minimum wage for flipping burgers and taking orders for them, something only worth $5 per hour, you can look for robotic burger cooking and their being ordered from an automated kiosk.

While in France I stopped at a MacDonalds along the tollway for coffee. You could order coffee from a live human, but on the food side there were no humans taking orders. The only possible way to order food was with an IPhone or credit card at the automated kiosk. I expect that in France a MacDonalds employee makes much more than in the US, thus the automation.

Without question, there will be more automation in coming years. The only reason that it has not happened yet is because of the low cost of labor that's available in other countries makes it more appealing for companies to outsource instead of investing into machinery.

Current government policies 'might' bring manufacturing back to the US, but I suspect they won't bring back jobs unless Americans suddenly become willing to work for $10/day.

Even if your job is not easy to automate, due to the higher level of competition on the job market due to automation (as more and more people get laid off), you have to ask yourself if you could be replaced with anyone better (or cheaper?).
