In some form, power will be routed from the battery through a fuse, ignition (key) switch, safety "kill" switch to an electronic ignition module. The module must be grounded, or have a negative wire to complete the power circuit.
The ignition module takes input(s) from the crankshaft or camshaft and has output(s) to coil(s), usually by "grounding" the coil (also protected by a fuse) and opening the ground to make a high voltage to 'fire' the spark plug. Lots of circuits and devices to troubleshoot before you declare the coils, ignition module or other stuff 'dead.' Turn on the key, turn off the 'kill' switch and check for power at the ignition module and the coil(s). Good luck! |

Make sure you didn't damage or mis-align the kickstand switch if it's equipped with such.
