started something else to do - bees

Set a couple of bee hives up this afternoon and after the lovely Ms engatwork has had an opportunity to decorate them as she sees fit will be introducing some bees and their queen. This is all brand new to me but I'm pretty excited about it. Anybody else got any hives?

sounds like fun!

Word of warning, carefully inspect your house and any outbuildings for holes into soffits or through siding, caused by things like squirrels. The bees may get comfortable and say, hey, expansion room!

I had to have approx 450lbs of beehive and about 100k howling mad bees removed from a 2nd floor soffit. was a very interesting experience

My wife would love to keep them but the municipality wont allow it. Ironic since half the surface area of Avondale AZ is farmland and almost every field has hives.

I got bit by a swarm of bees as a child. The neighbors said I didn't need to worry about them. One day they decided they did not like how close I was. After that I took a long detour in the field when near the hive.

I love the idea of keeping bees but they make me pretty nervous when close to a hive.

Hey Eng, have you looked at Flow Hive? Back in our hippie days Mrs B & I had two traditional hives. Back then I could handle a deep frame full of honey. Flow Hive looks like it will save chiropractor time.

I have 7 or so hives, best of both worlds - I don't own them or care for them but they're on my property. Beekeeper pays "rent" for the space in the form of free honey!

It is a pretty popular "hobby" around here.

I got a coat of flat white on the hives today with plans to get the bees next weekend:).

Watched youtube on Flow Hives and will most definitely be getting one.
