Drove a Toyota 2000GT

A few months back our dealership partnered with Private Motor Club and we made a short video about our 2000GT. I was the designated driver.

During the shoot, I drove the car more than 120 miles in the desert heat. While the car did not have A/C, it was a superbly built automobile and rode like a dream.

This is the video from that day, enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5k3M6RZU8s

Given that background music from the movie "Bullitt", I half-expected to see a black 1968 Dodge Charger in the video...

Was it the total big deal it was often made out to be? I remember it getting a lot of buzz back in the day.

What's up with the visible headlight and the pop up just above?

It's an excellent car, especially taking into account what was being built at the time —and how. I can see why they were a flop... better built than a Jag or a Corvette but just not as fast. At the time, it was $1000 more expensive than an E-Type and $2000 more expensive than a C2. A Jag feels like a lot of car for the money, that is what made them so successful. The poor Toyota could not even be saved by a Bond appearance.

The actual headlamps are the pop-up ones; the ones on the nose are the fogs.
