What bother different people differs allot.

When I was a kid my Cousin went hunting with us a few times. He shot at any living thing that he saw that moved.

Some people feel more powerful when they kill something especially if it was really small. Yet you could not get those same people to go on a hunt for some dangerous Game.
And if you did get them to go their ego (lack of respect for the Game) would likely get them in trouble.

Also I searched and found that a possum will almost never bite unless cornered. They also are unlikely candidates for rabies as their body temp is about 94 degrees, too cold for the rabies virus(?) to prosper.
Yes, on the internet it said Opossums don't carry rabies.

I don't know about the body temp issue but Humans can contract rabbies and and a normal human temp is 98.6 F and the internet had that Cats have a normal temp of 115 F and Cats can get rabies.

One of the internet sites said that Opossums will eat small Rodents.

If you do a google search for Opossum or Possum bites Racoon, Dog, or Cat you are going to come up with some Youtube vides of Possums doing that.

If not, just turn up the flame under the pot and chunk a few more onions in there with them.

Two comments on this....

I had a herd of cats once. Five or six of them depending on if one of them was there and not out hunting.

None of them would go near a opossum. These things would come up at night, eat the cat food, and the cats would just watch them. From a distance, too.

And.....

A friend of mine asked me to come look at his church's vent system. There was a terrible smell which he though might be fungus.

Nope. It was a dead opossum that had crawled under the church and died. It got in the space under the church, got confused and could not find a way out. This was an older church built on a pier and beam foundation. But it was a large foundation.

Opossum's can't see well, so if they can't smell their way back to the entrance of wherever they are they just starve to death.

This is what I've heard as well, cats don't like to go near opossums.
