'87 16v on Ebay -- scam
I know this because it used to be my car. VIN in ad is wrong. Not $5k paint job although the paint is in great shape. Always garaged. There is a tear in the driver bolster.
The really bad news is the engine is not good. The front gears are all worn. 2 cams, worm gear, secondary and crank all need to be replaced. The seal below the MAF and the sensor attached to the MAF need to be replaced as well. AC was converted to 134 and cools great when it works. The AC is intermittent. Never did figure out what was up with that. Not sure what he is smoking that he thinks he can get 18k for it. The body and interior are in great shape for 31 yrs. Everything does work. Wish I had her back but too much to make her whole again. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Mercedes-Benz-190-Series-16v-/202083078088?hash=item2f0d170fc8:g:ROYAAOSwA2hZ24tg&vxp=mtr

The scam just became more attractive with a $5,000 price drop.

We exchanged quite a few emails. Not sure how legit he is. I am pretty sure he is clueless regarding the nature of 16 valves. He mentioned in one mail that the prices of E30 M3's are going up and that will raise the price of his car. Sorry sweetheart, I do not think that is the way it works .. especially on a 200k mile car with significant engine issues. According to him, he is into it for about $5,200. Nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes.

When I sold my 2 cossies I didnt want to part them out which is what happens to alot of them. Both had Alot of the issues ,mostly fueling problems .Both were non running vehicles when I got them ,tanks cleaned ,lines blown out ,and was able to get a good part of the fuel distributors to flow correctly again. The parts are engine specific for all the fueling issues of the 16v. ,and youll pay dearly for each unit.I remember a price of $800 for the fuel distributor itself ,followed by regulator ,accumilator and 2 pumps, it was something like $1500. to have it close to factory again .I didnt get the $800 FD and later gave up trying to improve the 85 euro and sold it to a guy up north from Michigan .The euro found a good home and is running with a rebuilt engine , refreshed 5spd ,and looks great ,pics he sent he even updated the euro lights with yellowed reflectors.I might have loss some money but paved the way for a new enthusiest to bring back a piece of history.
The 87 automatic I would get updated photos ever so often from the buyer after selling thru the local toll road authority ,a failed buyer who refused to follow proper retitlement .Lessen learned .Its relisting on a san antonio cl gave me a good feeling that it still is complete and onto another 16v fan, hopefully retitled . |

Not to brag but I found the 2 cosworths very comiclly ,1st was the 85 euro under a very obscure cl add which from the one photo did it reveal its true identity , the side trim pieces gave it away. After owning it a few months a wrecker service driver had asked if I was interested in a car that he had on his lot that was very similiar to the one I had in the driveway ,he explained it was just like the one I had with the same color ,I asked if it was wearing a 2.3 16v on the decklid ,he said no ,its in the glovebox.I had to poker face that purchase, the backstory was he had a call and was told a car was needing a tow ,once their the gal explained about another car ,a non running 190e of her late husbands in the garage and if they would be interested in purchasing ,they bought and it sat for a year at their lot until it found me.The euro had a few problems but drove it for 3 months ,the 87 I got back on the road but needed alot of suspention issues gone over ,all recovery was fuel related mostly .True but strange how these are still roaming around out there ready to be redescovered. Each one was $1000. kind of price range I would still neg. dwn if it was a wornout but running 300d ,in these cases I didnt hesistate.Looking back at the sell I could of made around 10k off the parting out of the 2 cars but with family issues looming and other pressures I moved forward with rewarding a respectable buyer familiar with the car and passed on the flame.
