Kitchen sink drain position
 

When a kitchen sink drain is offset from center in the fore-aft direction, is it usually closer to the faucet or the person?

I don't see why it would matter from a draining point only maybe less in the way if closer to the faucet than the front of the sink.

Ours is closer to the faucet. Really though, it's whatever makes plumbing easier and wherever you can fit the garbage disposer in there.

Closer to the faucet, because the plumbing connections are usually on the back wall. So moving it closer to the edge would mean a longer run of unpitched tubing.

Rear facing traps allows more useable space generally. In the involved cabinet. At the same time because of the situation you may see or have to use an unorthodox installation. I do not even remember a forward facing trap off the drain connection that I can think of. With a kitchen sink.


Actually a lot of times it is fed into the wall directly behind. Again for several reasons. Primarily that storage room is at a premium in a lot of situations.

I'm guessing you ask because you have a sink which could be installed either way.

I agree for plumbing purposes usually the drains would be closer to the wall if not centered, but if its a very small sink there might not be enough room that way and it might be reversed.

Whenever they've needed replacement, I've been installing oversize single sinks that fit in place of the doubles. That eliminates the extra drain and storage-robbing plumbing under the counter, as well as the 'Great Wall of China' which divides a big sink into two tiny sinks!
The singles all had center drains.
