Pretty sure you are not the only one on this site who wonders the same thing. I think you have to read and re-read what I just wrote several times for the reality of it to sink into the grey matter. Take what I've just written and write it down on a note pad and place the note pad into a drawer. Sleep on it for three nights, then pull the note pad out and re-read it. Make some notes then place the note pad back into the drawer and sleep on it another three days. You'll be amazed at the clarity of thought concerning this subject.

Reminds me of a 20/20 television show. It featured a family man who had been home minding his own business when trouble appeared in the form of three cops. His teenage children were throwing a party downstairs at his house. The nosy neighbors called the cops on him. So.......the door bell rings, he looks out his peep hole and sees three police officers standing on his front porch.

Oh, its the police, THEY ARE THE GOOD GUYS RIGHT, so he opens the front door to his home. IMMEDIATELY, one of them darts into the house and goes down to the basement area where the teenagers are throwing the party. The other two cops keep the man busy while all of this is happening.

They charged him and his teenage children with underage drinking. He finally beat the rap but his legal bills were north of $100K. News Flash; $100K could buy a nice Mercedes Benz automobile!!! Instead, it went into a lawyer's pocket.....

The homeowner's lawyer advised the homeowner to never talk to the police. The 20/20 television show had a retired New York Police Officer as a consultant who had been following the story. I'll never forget what the ex-NYPD police officer then said, "Your lawyer is a VERY wise man".

The 20/20 interviewer then asked the homeowner what he had learned from all of this. He replied, "I learned to NEVER answer the door to my home!!!"

While we all realize the impact of City regulations or code on the allowable times for excessive noise, I believe the idea of "Do no harm" dictates we take measures so as not to infringe on our neighbor's right to quiet enjoyment of their homestead.

My dogs do not bark 95% of the time. If they do bark outdoors, usually it is at a squirrel in a tree. I call them down IMMEDIATELY then order them indoors. They aren't stupid and have come to understand that when I tell them to be quiet, they better put a sock in it.

What you "believe" is irrelevant. You can call the enforcers of the city code (police) and have them judge the situation, or you can spend a great deal of time, effort, and money and have your "belief" judged by a jury of your peers (or more likely the local judge since it'll probably be in small-claims court). That's pretty well your options. There's also a 3rd option - earplugs.

I am unwilling to sit around and take the abuse. One way or another I will sell the house and MOVE. There is no question the dogs have diminished my quality of life and have negatively impacted my health.

I am unable to enjoy my backyard for any activity, outdoor cookouts, sitting outside while reading a book, NOTHING. I certainly think enough of my friends and assocociates to NEVER invite them over for a backyard party or BBQ and subject them to the insidious barking. I'm a prisoner in the house, held hostage by the barking demons next door....

So do something about it! Complaining on a forum is one thing - it's just venting and gets you nowhere. Take some sort of action for God's sake!

Join a nude sunbathers club ,build a raised deck with walls that only leave a view of their backyard and facing their direction .They might put that for sale sign up in no time.

That is funny! Especially after they get a view of my 60+ year old body!

Speaking of raised decks, the neighbors behind me at my last house built an above ground swimming pool complete with a raised deck. Everytime I went outside, I would automatically say "Good morning", or "How is your day going?" because they were literally peering directly down into my yard......

Not really his forte'.

have had a few family issues involving mountains of legal paperwork that is sucking my life dry. I had to put the canine demons on temporary hold; that said they haven't put me or my sanity on hold.

Well, my neighbor two houses down the steet has two jackass dogs that bark all day and night. My next door neighbor who has a hearing aid can hear them all day too so its not just me. I started blowing air horns at them to quiet them down. Well, that didn't stop them. Next step they started barking at night at 3am and waking me up. I'm pretty angry at that point. I had mentioned it to them and expressed my frustration and told them how the neighbors can't stand it.

The wifes excuse is that she doesn't believe in training them because the dogs should be free to do whatever whenever. The dogs wake them up at all hours of the night so they can go to the bathroom and get night time snacks. They destroy the house that was just remodeled. it smells worse than a morgue in there when I was there. urine stains everywhere.

what I did was call the local municipality lady and report them. she didn't do anything. so I called the cops when they were bwrking at 3am and I believe they fined them. The dogs magically quit barking because I was tired of waking up. I don't live on a farm with a rooster in the middle of the woods.
