Anyone ever buy a car at an auction?
 

My concern is if I win the bid a see written alot extra cost at the bottom taked on,for instances 18% BP ,SALES TAX .X AMT. ONLINE BIDDERS AND EXTRA 3% .In the end I would pay 25% extra on these taked on fees and not sure the effort of a deal would be realized at the end.

I buy auction cars. Fees and taxes on mine were 180+/- for a 1000 dollar sale.

You have to factor that in when at an auction.

I have bought two cars (560SL and 300CD) and a (motorcycle BMW airhead) at ebay auctions. No extra fees. All those are charged to seller. In my case I had to add shipping/delivery cost except for the cycle which I picked up.

In all cases, I found there was more wrong with the vehicles than I thought there would be from the description but .... There was probably less wrong than the seller thought. I was satisfied with the end result in all cases and will do it again.

All that said, I have a part-time driving gig working at an auto auction. There is a well-defined fee for the seller. Depending on what you want done to the car there may be additional fees. The auction house is full-service. They will do everything from detailing to new tires and mechanical repairs. All for fees.

Come to think of it I bought a nice little half ton chevy short bed from the post office in some sort of an auction thing. I used it for a few months and fixed some things then sold it along for a small profit.

I bought my '98 e300td in May 2007 for $16,000. It was a good buy despite its 96,000 miles, because '98 and '99s were the latest model that could be bought at a reasonable price. There had been two previous owners, and the second owner bought it as a CPO with an extended warranty; she took the car into the dealer every time she heard a noise. It had complete service records, and I discovered that service was up to date when I bought it. I did nothing to the car except new floor mats for 10 months, when I then bought new tires. It has served me well for more than ten years; the expensive repairs have been to the air conditioning system.

The PO traded the car for a newer one, and the dealer sent the car to the auto auction. I bought from a reseller who buys at the auctions. I talked to him for a long time; I don't think he knew the car was as sound as it was.

Average commercial auto auction. There will always be fees. That is how they make a dollar.

They will tell you or provide a printed fee schedule. Basically the one that concerns you is the buyers fee. It varies usually by the amount of dollars involved in the transaction.

Being basically the selling price of the car. Sales tax as well if the auction is in a jurisdiction that has it. Or you pay it elsewhere I suppose. Hard to escape in any event.

Remember rule number one though at car auctions. If you have or wear rose colored glasses. Leave them at home. Also check into any protection that you may have. This will vary from some to basically none other than the car is not a theft I suppose.

Both good and bad deals occur at auto auctions.
