Mercedes-Benz is to bring an A-Class Sedan to the U.S. Market

How do you think it will do? Sources say that MB has never had anything smaller or less expensive than the CLA-Class available fro sale in the states from MB. They also state that we can see a price tag of under 30k. The automaker has been back and forth about bringing something or this sorts to the market for some time now. It also looks as if they're attempting to target a certain or even a broad audience. Share your thoughts with us.

Quote:
Mercedes-Benz finally has an A class suited for U.S. consumers, says the brand's global sales chief, Britta Seeger.

Likely customers for the A-class sedan in the U.S. will probably be younger in general, with many of them new to the brand, Seeger said.

"It's a very attractive car for younger people," she said. "But not only for younger people it can have a broad audience because it's a nice entrance into the Mercedes-Benz family."

MB had an A Class available in Canada for a few years and I knew several folks who tried to "import" one to USA...

The CLA is basically an a class but the "coupe" version of it. I think it looks like a melty blob, but seems enough people have bought them. Offer the backlit MB logo and they'll have a winner.

Might be a good selection for someone who wants an upscale city car that doesn't look like a shoe....

Besides it being fwd, I think it's a good looking little car and beats the boring Audi A3. An A45 will get you around town pretty quick.

You could buy yourself some or other asian jellybean for thousands less and stick a star on front and back and no doubt save yourself a lot of reliability woes into the bargain.

Yet, you didn't take that route when you purchased your w108 and w116. Why not?

I'm all for an A45 AMG! That little 380hp motor is pretty fun to beat the snot out of.

I'd have a CLA45, but they haven't depreciated enough for me to justify one. When they finally depreciate into the mid-teens, I'll get one! MB has the A3/S3 and BMW 2 in their sights with the A, and I hope it really does well. I don't think it will be as cheap as a base Civic, but think it may pull people away looking to get a fully loaded Civic.

How do you figure this isn't a real Mercedes? What even qualifies as a real Mercedes anymore?

I'm right there with you! I really like the GLA45 - it's really funky in a good way.

Why would I? I could afford proper Mercedes Benz's (albeit-used) and the Asian Jellybeans were flimsy, unsafe, unreliable garbage back then. Remember that's in South Africa where we had Jap Crap the likes of which you never had to endure here.

The whole point of owning those Mercedes was reliability, safety, comfort, performance etc.

The equation has changed now. One could say that aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder. So what to me looks like a Jellybean indistinguishable from any other modern sedan may appeal to others, and that's fine I guess. But given the horrendous reliablity issue of modern Mercedes, a complete 180 from cars of the past, what is the point of spending that kind of money to buy something that is in no quantifiable way superior to anything coming out of Asia, or just about anywhere else for that matter?
