IF you stay off it, ice it for the first day, stay off it, warm wrap it for the next couple of days, stay off it, keep it elevated, stay off it, keep hydrated and limit your activities, about a week.

If you try to "power" your way through it, up to six weeks or more depending on the severity of the sprain and the speed you try to recover.

Thanks ,great to hear ,pain subsided and I thought I was superhuman for a day ,thats until reality in the form of pain was back .Interesting read about the powering through it from a medical point of fact, you stress the healing time and the ligaments grow short and can lead to easier sprains later on.Havent had this since I was a kid ,Ive learned a few longer cuss words since then.

if you can get a predisone dose pak you will heal over night

Not enough to be a constant pain so been off any P meds.Good to know though. When a coach on a ballfield tells a player to "walk it off" with a leg injury ,I can now see a concern with that saying.

Best thing you can do is avoid taking any pain medications. Pain is Nature's way of telling you, "Don't do that you dumb sumbeech". :D Ice it when it is sore to reduce the swelling which is causing the pain.

Naproxium sodium (Advil) will help with the swelling but can lengthen the recovery time.

For soft tissue injuries the key is "R.I.C.E."

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Of course the occasional application of a good single malt can alleviate some of the stress you might be feeling.

I also hate sitting...but as someone who sprains an ankle every 6 months or so (long story, previous injuries etc) the best you can do is stay off of it for at least a day, possibly two. Wrap it up best you can if you are going to move for the next couple days. You just need to stay off of it as much as possible.

Its almost 100% after 2 wks ,5 straight days with crutches ,5 days with hobbling ,5 with stiffness .No shoes the first five with a wrap and brace .I could wear tennis shoe over it after 7 days though uncomfortable ,glad to be back on the ped .

Your lucky , i sprained my wrist 9 weeks ago now .Even last night it keept me awake on and off . I did start it off again and it was my fault , because i play with the playstation 1 games, and I am 72 years young . And i knew after i packed it in that it was hurting . The older you are the longer these things take to heal . Can be a silly Billy ..

An air filled (padded) brace held on by velcro worked wonders for me.
