What car is this?

Hey all,

So I see this car everyday sitting out in front of my apartment and was just wondering if anyone could tell me what it is as I can't figure it out, I really love the look of it. Thanks!

Styling looks like 1958 to 64 something, leaning towards dodge.

1960 Oldsmobile. Not GMs best styling effort. Looks like it must be a convertible.

What car is this?

1960 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88

I was offered one a few years ago. Way too big of a car.

It wasn't only GM, Ford and Chrysler had some fugly cars in the 59-62 period too. I wasn't alive then, but there must have been something in the water in Detroit at that point in automotive history. Some of the greatest looking cars ever came out of the mid-late 50s, then suddenly everything had eyeballs popping out, weird frowns, and in Chrysler's case - everything looking downright "Soviet"!

Cars didnt get better looking till 66.

I was alive in the 50's and 60's. And I'm still alive. I think the cars from the fifties were among the ugliest cars ever made, with the possible exception of the mid-decade Ford Thunderbirds and Continentals. And maybe the Chrysler fin cars, which were so ugly they were beautiful. Fortunately, cars from that era rusted fast and few are on the road today. When you get to 1960 things started to get better, and the mid-60's cars were really nice.

My father rented a '61 Lincoln (one of the prettiest cars ever) for my sister's wedding. It would have been great if the rental agency had delivered. But the Lincoln had broken down (typical ford) and they showed up with a lavender Dynamic 88(!), which was a disappointment to say the least. So I have a fond memory of this particular pile of junk. The wide whites are a bit out of period.

Anything from your neck of the woods 50 or 60 is a go go for me .I just love cars from the USA the bigger the better .

They had the Rocket 88 exhaust going for them. engatwork's mom drove Olds 88s and could really make them sing.

Those aren't wide whites!;)

Thanks for the reply guys! I would have never guessed it was an Oldsmobile! Are they one of those rare cars that go for heaps? Or are they just seen as "meh".. Appreciate all the replies! :D

I'd imagine a four door sedan would be pretty inexpensive for a us car of that era. That one looks like a convertible though so its probably worth 10K or so as it is.

I learned how to drive in a '65 Continental, dark green, maybe not as dark as in this photo:

They did have a sort of understated clean lines look for the day, though they messed with it some. The '65 had the turn signal light just above the bumper on each side.

But I disagree with you somewhat about 50s cars. Cadillac went weird with the rocket ship thing in '59. Was more charming earlier in the 50s I thought. The 1950 Ford was sort of cool. The HC show about the history of the auto said it was a huge design leap and sold big:

I also like the Chevies, '54 to '57. Amazing how they seemingly changed the body styling somewhat radically from one year to the next. But for my money they went weird in '59. Until about '65 was an awkward transition period IMO:

I also liked the Studie of the early 50s, with and without the rocket nose. So weird it was cool. A buddy of mine had a bullet nose variant in the early 60s:
