An estate in need of an auto appraisal for a vehicle

Anyone familiar with the law in this dept.? Their requiring an appraisal for court requirements .
CARMAX and others require the title owner to be present at time of their appraisal ,this is an estate so that wont be an option.GEICO DO THESE TYPE OF SPECIALISED APPARAISALS.

Why not go to an established used car dealer in your area? Does the appraisal have to meet specific criteria? If not, something on dealer letterhead indicating the specifics of the vehicle (year, make, model, color, equipment, mileage and condition) with a valuation should cover it. Ask Carmax if the estate executor (with papers from the county Register of Wills confirming his status as executor) could stand in for the owner.

Does the estate have an attorney? What is his advice?

Ask the court if an on-line forum by the name of Peach Parts would qualify. You would get a quick appraisal here, free of charge, after some additional details on the vehicle. You also for fun could post the details and see how close you get here to the actual court accepted appraisal.

If you want a 1935 senior Packard to be appraised for insurance purposes, then feel free to contact one of those folks. A 2006 Honda Accord? Might be overkill...

The estate is the owner, and the executor is the court appointed rep for the estate. What's the problem?

This.
The executor just needs to go to carmax or wherever with all the documents showing how he/she is authorized to sell the vehicle ultimately

I've done plenty of Inheritance and Estate tax returns here in NJ. I usually supply a KBB listing for the year make & model and mileage of the decedent's vehicle(s). Never had any challenge. As long as its reasonable, they don't quibble here about that.
Real estate, business valuations and minority ownership discounts are what they care about and want to see competent, evidentiary matter.

What kind of car are we talking about? Your run of the mill 5-7 year life road vehicle or some museum piece?
(Like my 30 yr. old 300ce)
