I think it is the epitome of arrogance to assume that we are alone. Looking out at the universe, statistically, there has to be something (more than likely, a whole lot of somethings) out there.

Given the huge number of sightings of things that have not been explained, discounting the article in the National Enquirer and other nut jobs, there are examples such as this, by people who have an understanding of what it i s that they are looking at. I think the odds are good that at least some of them may be real. Whether this is a sighting or not, who knows. The pilots do not seem to indicate that they think it's a UFO, just that they do not know what it is. Who knows.

The idea of visits from "out there" does beg the question of "How". If you believe de Grass Tyson, the closest star to the rock we live on is 25,000,000,000,000 miles away, give or take a few miles. Traveling the speed of light, it would take us about 4 yrs to get there. Given the vastness of the universe, how did they get here. For us to get to Alpha Centauri, it would take us about 70,000 years. Obviously the folks visiting us must know how to go a whole lot faster than we can or have developed some other way of traveling. If that is true then who come see us? It would be like us checking out an ant colony. We are back assward to them.

A lot of what if's and not a single answer.

Yep. I am a major UFO skeptic. When I see 'ancient aliens' on the History Channel programming display I keep looking.

More in depth to the OP:

Bot touched on this in an earlier thread:
Quote:

In December, the Defense Department declassified two videos documenting encounters between U.S. Navy F-18 fighters and unidentified aircraft. The first video captures multiple pilots observing and discussing a strange, hovering, egg-shaped craft, apparently one of a “fleet” of such objects, according to cockpit audio. The second shows a similar incident involving an F-18 attached to the USS Nimitz carrier battle group in 2004.
Article is by Christopher Mellon served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence in the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. He is a private equity investor and an adviser to the To the Stars Academy for Arts and Science.

Selected excerpts from the article:

Is it possible that America has been technologically leap-frogged by Russia or China? Or, as many people wondered after the videos were first published by the New York Times in December, might they be evidence of some alien civilization?

Unfortunately, we have no idea, because we aren’t even seeking answers.

The military personnel who are encountering these phenomena tell remarkable stories. In one example, over the course of two weeks in November 2004, the USS Princeton, a guided-missile cruiser operating advanced naval radar, repeatedly detected unidentified aircraft operating in and around the Nimitz carrier battle group, which it was guarding off the coast of San Diego.

In some cases, according to incident reports and interviews with military personnel, these vehicles descended from altitudes higher than 60,000 feet at supersonic speeds, only to suddenly stop and hover as low as 50 feet above the ocean. The United States possesses nothing capable of such feats.

If these craft mean that Russia, China or some other nation is concealing an astonishing technological breakthrough to quietly extend its lead, surely we should respond as we did then. Perhaps Russian President Vladi*mir Putin’s recent chest-thumping claims about propulsion breakthroughs are not pure braggadocio. Or, if these craft really aren’t from Earth, then the need to figure out what they are is even more urgent.

Radar artifacts. Nothing new or unusual about them. Been around since radar was invented. Boring frankly.
