C130 crash right next to my work

I was at work around 1130am when the ground shook and we stepped outside to witness a huge fireball. Highway 21 was a blaze. Amazingly No cars or anyone on the ground harmed. If it would have happened 30 minutes later the road would have been full of lunch bound traffic. I have to give respect to the local police, fire department and military. They were on scene in a hurry.

A local trucking company caught it on their security system.

You never know whats going to happen from day to day. I was just driving that spot 20 minutes before the crash.

They are investigating now. From the video some are saying a flap was stuck down and caused a roll. FAA and the military have the road closed off indefinitely.

The plane had been at the airport for maintenance and was on its way to AZ for retirement.

I used to work at the papermill in Port Wentworth.

I just read that. Also read there may have been nine on board.

IP mill? Then you know where Gulfstream road and 21 intersect. Thats where it crashed.

Yep, IP mill now, was Stone Container when I was there during the early-mid 90s. I worked at Gulfstream for a few years while living in Rincon and used to take that road every day.

Saw the OP heading last night, didn't click on it. Thought to myself, you mean MB is putting a 1.3 liter engine in a C class. Then this AM saw the footage of the plane going down on the news.

I'm not a pilot but I believe there is something known as a "pre-flight checklist". I've seen pilots both walk around the aircraft and check flight surface operations (rudder, elevator, flaps and ailerons) BEFORE take-off.

If it were me, I'd triple check those items.....

That ain't good either. Someone signed off on those engines, now we just need to find out who that someone is......

I imagine the directive was to not spend any more money on it than they had to kinda like some people I know in regards to their cars.

I wonder how much control the pilot had over being able to put it in the spot that it crashed at where there were no cars. That section of road can build up a lot of traffic. It is a wonder no cars were involved. The pilot is a hero if he had control but video does not really show he had it from what I could tell.

Geez, this sure as h*** isn't the first time a military aircraft went down in flames over mechanical issues and it won't be the last.....
