I thought retirement meant relaxation...

I've been medically retired, as some of you may know, since 2013. Because of my health, and inability to work, I was able to move back to Ohio to care for mom...well, my wife to care for my mom. I've been too busy...

As soon as word got out that I was back in town, I've had a couple of opportunities fall into my lap. I'm now part owner of a rustic woodcrafts company with my brother, providing all technical support and lending my face for the craft shows, along with our wives. He's not interested in dealing with the customer...he just wants to be in the shop. We're getting ready to break ground on a 60X120 steel building to move our operations in back behind his garage. Once that's done, we're going to purchase a laser cutter/etcher, large enough to put an entry door into. Since I'm the technical whiz on it, I'll be the one programming it and drumming up business...which should be no problem. I've also inherited a decent sized vinyl machine out of the deal, and have been churning out window decals, signs, and other thing that we sell alongside of the rustic woodcraft items.

On top of that, I've been asked to join a group of guys wanting to bring a Make Space to the area...google it for details. We're getting ready to file the papers for a non-profit so that we can drum up donations from area businesses. Our hope is to not only provide a space and machinery to be used, but also use the space as an educational tool for the area.

Furthermore, the e-liquid company I founded for my wife is starting to take off in the area...we've just been picked up by a chain of vape shops in the area, putting us in 6 more shops.

Just because my body doesn't work like it should, it doesn't mean my mind is dead. My ideas are growing and benefiting others, as well as my wife and me.

Yeah, I thought being medically retired meant I'd have to sit in my chair and die. I just needed to be moved to the right area to utilize what's between my ears more.

Dont ever stop working . Year after year you will get tired at the littlest things.
Just keep active .

I retired two years ago this month. I am now saying “ I don’t know how I ever had time to work.” Life is good!

I rebuilt a Rockwell Delta Homecraft 16" scroll saw on Monday, and it kicked my arse til today afterwards...but not my mind. I now have a 24" version of the same saw that was delivered today, for the same treatment. With the orders piling up for wooden signs and Mother's Day gifts, I don't know when I'll get the chance to start on the big guy.

I'm glad that I've improved just enough to not be glued to the chair 24/7. That was 4 years of my life that I refer to as pure hell.

Congratulations Jon! Sounds like you are in a good place with your life. You deserve it, heartily!
