I too was wondering about that. Although normal fire insurance may cover it. The flow blocking certain roads could be a real problem for residents as well.

I guess they would just let it flow until the eruption was over and then clear it somehow. Perhaps diverting lava flow from roads where they could.

I also wondered if they were mentally pre conditioned to live with these events. Even with that looking at a volcanic type cone developing say 1000 feet away from the front door. As one picture shows could have a major effect. You also have to stay away from all the poison gasses that are a byproduct of these eruptions.

We have a very bad major flooding issue going on here about 250 miles away. That area is prone to some flooding. It is just more severe this year than in the last 50 years. Right up to the peaks of some houses so they will be total losses. Not positive but they may not have flood insurance.

State law says fire insurance sold in Hawaii has to also cover volcano damage.
