Land cruiser ftw, very good vehicle, but dont expect cheaper service like a toyota as its parts are not exactly low cost.

chevy SUVs are great too.

My gas Silverado with the 5.3 does 25-27 on the highway...

My 50 mile loop record on 50-60mph two lane roads coming back from Saratoga NY was 29.9...

This may sound silly but I am being deterred from these vehicles due to a lack of a proper towing mirror. Those strap on devices leave me cold. Who cares if you can tow 7700# if you cannot see behind you.

It seems to me that people rarely really tow with these vehicles, more of a luxury statement than anything else. The towing rating seems high to me, like not actually tested in the real world.

There is a lack of accessories for what you are planning. How about a ridgeline? Pickup, passenger, good tow rating, and much more towing use in that realm. Plus a lot of positive ownership reviews

Comments?
W211 makes a far better plough.

why not a ml350 bluetec? Id take one of those over a diesel VAG. They're about the same price, size and towing cap.

I didn't realize until recently that GM currently builds a 1-ton Suburban 3500 for fleet/law enforcement purposes. They all come equipped with a 6-liter gas V8. Now enter a company in Florida called Duraburb that performs Chevy diesel conversions on such vehicles. S-Class money is needed to purchase a new one, but what a vehicle!
