Pelican acquired by ECS?
Rumors flying around that Pelican (and likely as a subsidiary, Peachparts) was bought by ECS Tuning. Any idea if this is true?

Find out if it's true that they're moving everything to Poland...

haha I'm not expecting that, but I do see the reps and marketing folks pop in here from time to time. They may have just found out too!
Trying not to throw shade but it would really be a shame if true.

I believe buy outs in the auto parts area are becoming more frequent in general. Most are expanding their footprints as fast as they can. I assume the larger they become the better they can buy inventory at the most favorable rates.
As I mentioned not long ago I have found the markups by auto parts chains to be really signifigant in nature. That 10.00 knock sensor from China for the chev tracker worked just fine. Was it the same one used in the original production of those vehicles? I do not know. Physically it looked identical to the one it replaces. This is a high failure rate item on those vehicles. I was in error on the local parts place retail pricing though for the part. My brother in law told me about 160 American for it there. He corrected it quoting it was about 240 American up here in Canada. I think the buy outs will continue as long as the margins on parts are as good as they seem to be. The twist is many will not engage any name changes. Some electrical switches arrived this morning. Under a dollar each delivered and these are the exact same switches that average about 7.00 plus 95 cents sales tax each at local retailers. I am still waiting for the right side mirror led light assembly for the Jetta. You cannot change the led. Source it in north America with shipping is going to cost more than 55.00 American for aftermarket perhaps. Five dollars again including delivery from China. It could even be an original part that was manufactured there for volkswagon originally. Whoever made those mirrors with directional signals incorpororated made a lot of them for various car brands. I order what I can from China on a pretty regular basis as long as I do not need it now. Or the north American price is ridiculous. |

Hi guys! Our CEO, Bryan Handlen, addressed this back in July on our main forum (Wayne also chimed in):
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1001212-pelican-parts-ecs-tuning-heres-what-you-should-know.html Please let us know if you have any questions- Personally, I'm happy to report that after almost a year not much has changed around here, and we've probably been more of a cultural influence on ECS than they have been on us. Thanks, Chris |

A snippet from Bryan Handlen's post mentioned just above mine:
We were being told nothing would change and we would be allowed to operate independently. I worked in a merger & outsourced-prone industry all of my adult life. Dodged several of them. When I retired(my idea), I looked back on all of the acquisitions I had dodged. Felt like an infantryman who had been in 3 wars and never been shot. Lucky. That said, there are countless people in the workforce who have been told the same thing the PP CEO was, later to learn otherwise. Good luck PP; hope your ship continues to sail.
