Photo Ticket

Finally got busted by one. Saw the video and I screwed up. I did a CA stop on a corner to make a right on red. Spoke with my friend who lives up the street (I was picking him to go to a movie) and he said it was not the CA stop that got me. They have it set up where the stop line is too far back to see cars coming from the left if there are cars in the left turn lane. So everyone rolls to a stop just shy of the corner and one car length past the stop line. He said his wife got one ticket and mother got two tickets. They stopped, unlike me but they stopped too late.

Lesson learned. I'm not going to go to his house that way any more because I will not remember to stop at the line. $75 lesson learned.

Love it when the politicians claim it is for safer roads. If that were the case a $10.00 fine would do the same as a $75.00 fine.

I disagree. The fine is the incentive not to do something. If the fine were only $10 I would roll the dice and take that route because the odds are against someone going through all the video footage and nailing me again. I have been taking that route for years and this is the first time I have been nailed.

The problem is never the amount of the fine. Get a few of these tickets (In NY, it's about four) and your insurance company will hurt your pocket more than any judge ever could.

This is my first ticket in several years. I try not to drive crazy. Stick with traffic, don't weave in and out, don't tail gate... etc.

Diseasel300 07-14-2018 09:28 AM

If the line is too far back to see oncoming traffic and SAFELY make a turn, you need to contest the ticket.

Mxfrank 07-14-2018 10:12 AM

Yup. I have a friend who joined the dark side and sells traffic cams to municipalities. The intersections are often rigged to be right on the ragged edge of the law, so as to generate enough fine revenue to justify the cost of the camera. Oops...I meant to promote public safety. Here's a good article on beating a red light ticket:

I had thought about that and had I come to a complete stop at the corner I might have but I did a Cali stop so either way I am screwed. Besides, to fight it odds are I would have to take a day off work just to fight a $75 ticket. I'll loose much more than that in time and money. I just don't think it's worth it.

Personally I have no problem with cameras getting red light runners, in principal. The problem here is so bad that these *******s cause multiple fatalities every year. Not saying this was your case but here it is a major problem.

As long as intersections are set up with cameras "in good faith" to make a genuine safety difference I'd say they are a good thing.

In this case that doesn't seem to be the situation and it sounds like the best option would be a 22 cal target rifle with a night vision scope, subsonic ammo and an "operation" in the wee hours of the morning.

Thats a lot of work to deal with a red light cam. I'm just going to take an alternate route. A lot easier.

Hatterasguy 07-15-2018 02:57 PM

I used to dislike red light camra's, but lately the problem has gotten so bad I think all intersections should have them.

I swear it seems like 1-3 cars run the light every time it changes.

davidmash 07-15-2018 05:17 PM

I've been hit 3 times. Never due to. Red light runner but people who were No just negligent. I ended up getting a dash cam just to cover my self.

David, it is only your bad Karma coming back to bite you in the ass.

Um ... sure. If this is bad karma... I'll take it.

Personally I think it was just me rolling a red to make a right turn .. feel free to chalk it up to what ever ou choose.

I am not against them, just that the politicians lie about their implementation. They say it is for safety reasons. Where are the police, Its a money grab and nothing short of that.
