Singapore Airlines will resume the longest flight from Newark to Singapore on the new Airbus 350

Flight time of aprox 19 hrs and 10,300 miles. I am not sure I could do it. Ms Mash and I want to go to Australia and New Zealand but the idea of being on a plane for that long is off putting. The longest flight I was on was a non-stop from Heathrow to LAX. That one was about 12 hrs. I was even in first class and I was ready to be pealed off the walls I was so stir crazy.

My Daughter and I went to Dubai. It was 17 hours but we did transfer after five. I watched a couple of movies, read, and walked around. It wasn't too bad.

I remember when the only thing crossing the ponds had 4 engines. When the MD-11 hit, it had the range to do SJC-NRT. Now, with the fuel efficiency and reliability, they can take a twin engine across the water with out concern. I think the FAA adjusted the ATOP requirements but that was it.

I do kind of feel bad for Airbus though. They invested a butt ton of cash in the 380 only to see it bit the dust 10 yrs after introduction. I watch it take off to SYD each night at about 1030. It is still a sight to behold.

Quantas opened a route between Perth and London which is similarly long and they put out a request to Boeing and Airbus for an aircraft that can do the Sydney to London route. That one is going to be about 21hrs.

Where to begin? On a recent trip, a family member's bag was a whopping two pounds overweight. No one at gate check-in informed him of the overweight condition at flight check-in. Gifts had been purchased in the foreign city to bring back to family and friends.

My family member was looking forward to sharing the gifts with friends and family when he arrived home. It apears TSA didn't much like the idea of bringing nice gifts to family and friends because when the bag arrived home it was missing about (you guessed it) two pounds of items most of which were the expensive gifts.

If you like having your crap systematically removed (stolen??) from your baggage, please, be my guest and fly the TSA/Federal Air Marshall infested skies. They will make sure you play within the rules at all times. For you and your fellow passenger's safety, OF COURSE!!

Good luck, you will most definitely need it.

Years prior to 9/11, another family member had injured her knee and was forced to use crutches. She had planned a vacation with other family members, the airline flights had been booked about a year prior to her injuries.

She normally never checks luggage containing valuables, choosing rather to carry on. Her injuries required her to check her baggage, one bag contained about $900 in gold jewelry. Remember, prior to 9/11, you could put REAL locks on your luggage.

She arrived at her destination (St. Louis) and sees her bags come up on the baggage turnstill, locks broken. All $900 in gold jewelery was missing. She filed a report with the airline who told her the maximum amount she could collect was $150.

I can't remember when she had had so much enjoyment "flying the friendly skies".

I always wondered about not only the workers stealing but also putting contraband in luggage. Whats to stop them from placing an explosive in one of the bags. Seems security is slack enough.

What's really weird is this is awfully similar to some of the other stories you've made up over the years with characters and details changed....

Howdy All,
Just a little side bar to long flights. General Atomics flew a uav from North Dakota to England. 24 hours 2 minutes witch included several hours of circling in pattern.

This is probably a lie.

Bags are weighed at the ticket counter, not the gate. If the bag was over weight, the airline would have just charged a excess weight charge and sent them on their way TSA has nothing to do with the weight of a bag. They could care less. The only screen the bag for contraband.

Been flying for over 50 yrs. Never had a bag pilfered or known anyone who had a bag pilfered.

This story has more holes than Swiss cheese. I give it 3 Pinocchio's. What else do you have?

Your family member is an idiot. Only a moron would put jewelry in a checked bag. In previous stories you have argued that locks on bags did not matter because the evil baggage handlers can smell the loot and will steal it anyway.

I'm also calling BS on this story. Baggage dept does not have xray or anything so they would have no idea what was in a bag. They do not have the time to go through all the bags. If the bag looked expensive they might make the effort.
