A few years back, a friend of mine who owned a retail store was robbed. As would be expected, he called the po-po. He said they sent two fat overweight female officers who spent the ENTIRE day waddling around his store looking over the goods.

With their police cars parked outside, NOBODY entered the store the ENTIRE day. He also shared that neither cop spent a dime in his store.

But hey, they made d*mn sure he was safe, right?

I guess the moral of that story is to never call the cops when you get robbed. Just suck it up and wait for the next robbery. The alternative is shoot to kill.

They worked a Saturday which is overtime. At around $150/day overtime pay per cop times 1000 government funded loafers = extremely expensive security.

Did you see any of the cops going into Charlottesville shops and coming out carrrying shopping bags?

Oops, almost forgot, cops expect everything from coffee, meals to whatever be supplied by shopowners for FREE.

But if their storefront windows were trashed they would be the first to yell 'Where were the police!'

It is not the fault of the police for responding. It is the fault of the person that caused them to respond.

First, the shop owners need to take responsibility for their OWN store security. That means INTERIOR and EXTERIOR video cameras connected to a DVR locked in a safe room. The store needs to be well lit at night, both interior and exterior. I've known a few store owners who brought in a security K9 guard dog to house sit when the store was closed. Seems bad guys don't like getting bit by a dog.

Next up would be to hire a private security service to drive by the property several times during night time hours.

Yes, all of this cost a few $$$ but get this; if they DON'T take reasonable precautions and become victims, their business insurance rates may SKY ROCKET!!!

I think it is poetic that a lot more counter protesters showed up than white supremists at this latest Charlottesville ralley.

You wanted the cops to go shopping when they were being paid to do policework?

The cops were supposedly at his place of business to investigate the robbery. The business of investigation means interviewing witnesses, setting up a time for the sketch artist to come by (he had NO WORKING VIDEO CAMERAS ON PREMISES.....GO FIGURE), writing the report then LEAVING.

I like how the NOPD cops made sure they had a full shopping cart so they could steal the maxiumum number of items. They probably went back and filled up six more shopping carts!!!

That sort of goes without saying. Any business these days that does not take these measures is putting a target on their heads.

Southland Inc., which once owned almost all the 7-11's, had two ex cons handle their security measures. They would case a store and then make recommendations of security upgrades.

They would now and then get picked up by the cops for casing a place. But that was because they had told Southland how to train store clerks on how to spot if someone is casing their place.

And some of them were paying attention to their lessons.
