Chapaquidick

We watched this tonight. Certain details were not shown, likely because they remain unknown. For sure Ted did not conduct himself with good judgment or morality. ...and if it had occurred elsewhere he would not have gotten off so easily. It did not sugar coat it. Ted is portrayed as a real dumbazz who felt entitled to be treated above the law.

Sorry, this should be in the other forum.

I had a business trip to Massachusetts shortly after that incident. While there I did a sort of informal survey of many of the locals. I asked "What do you think of the Kennedy thing?"

Almost universally the response was something like; That poor Kennedy family. They have had so much tragedy in their lives.

Few even mentioned Mary Jo and those were sort of a footnote.

I wonder if he was drunk. If he was, he got away with murder. If he was not drunk then it was just a bad accident. He left the scene of a crime. That is also unexcuseable in my opinion.

Fully agree David. I don't think he could have survived as a politician in today's poisonous climate.

I don't think he should have back then. What he did was wrong at the very least, criminal.at the very worst.

If anyone ever took a look at the rickety bridge, they'd amazed anyone drove a car of any sort over it ~ I'd been hesitant to ride my Honda 90 or _walk_ on it.

I lived in Ma. back then .

Yes, that family had too much tragedy but when you're drunk CALL A CAB or sleep it off for chrissakes .

There is always the political aspect of his actions. Had he pulled this stunt in the mid-atlantic or southern region of the country, things may have gone far differently for him. Last I checked, rural Georgians don't much care for yankees regardless of who they are.

Think about it, home town boy with powerful political connections commits an indiscretion. H*ll he's got the local prosecutor, the local cops and the local townspeople in his back pocket, right?

So.....if you are a powerful politician with plenty of powerful friends, you can drive off a bridge at night while either stone drunk OR 100% sober, leave a girl to drown in a SUBMERGED CAR AT NIGHT and rest easy knowing the entire incident will be conveniently SWEPT UNDER THE RUG. Why? 'Cuz you are a native to Massachusetts and your home town friends, neighbors, cops and prosecutors will all exonerate you.

No wonder he starting drinking........

He didn't commit an "indiscretion" Husky. He killed MaryJo Kopechny then ran away and tried to cover it up.

I used the word "indiscretion" in jest. Apparently, the locals, the local cops and the local prosecutor didn't feel the "incident" rose to the level of a "crime".

Been doing A LOTTA reading lately regarding the subject of prosecutorial discretion AKA selective enforcement. If you happen to be a local "made man", the powers that be are more prone to look the other way........

All you have to do is throw big parties for local politicians with plenty of good looking young women in attendance. Should a "problem" arise in your life, you just pick up the telephone and your troubles INSTANTLY disappear.

Life is good.......and keeps getting BETTER!!!
