It was fun and it's still on the road 3 owners after me. Unfortunately it really didn't fit my needs after a while and a 190e 2.6 5 speed fell in my lap. In the real world with bumps and off camber corners the 190e 2.6 was a better canyon car.

Yes of course but then you're back to riding a plodder and I don't ride that way .

Not even on my Tiddlers .

My new to me 1975 BMW R60/6 barn find Moto (! 8,000 miles yahoo !) also has a very slight oscillation of the bars if I let go of them above 40 MPH or so, I tried setting the damper on it's lowest setting and don't like it but I don't think it'll ever become a true tank slapper either so I'll just live with it, I suppose I'm not supposed to ever take my hands off the grips, right ? .
The steering damper did not seem to impact the pleasure of riding it to me. I never thought of myself as a plodder either.

No, this massive and near fatal injury had nothing to do with hands off the grips .

On a separate, unrelated topic, my favorite was a 1960s era 1600 that seemed to barely hold together at 90 mph on the Autobahn. I had also owned a 76 500 series but did not like it as much. Sold it to a Air Force kid cheap and he ran it out of oil and destroyed it.

Driving the 1600 was like driving a biplane. You felt close to the machine.
The same thrill as falling out the side of a perfectly good airplane...

Talking Driving Quickly Or Fast

Just so ~

I never did buy the old 1600/1800/2000 Bimmer my Son wanted me to, my buddy's XYL had one in the 1970's and it was nice but always needed something fixed and every year like clockwork it needed a valve job, I'm sure neither he nor she took any sort of care of it .

Anyways, it's far more entertaining to drive slow vehicles fast as it keeps you focused and on the ball at all times .

E30 M3, I just can't afford one now (had a chance to buy a decent one with ~60K on the clock back in about '03, but I was broke so it would have had to be my daily). Also, the M2 has started to make me feel some kinda way. I want to test drive one, but I know I probably shouldn't.

What is your favorite BMW?

Everyone elses. I owned a BMW once. Once.

1988 325i convertible. That car was haunted. Everything broke on that car it seemed. Looked great parked which it would do often as it was as dependable as communist lawyer.

Thumbs up Reconsider

"I want to test drive one, but I know I probably shouldn't. "

Yes, you should ~ my elder Sister is getting on in years and though maybe she'd treat herself to a nice fun car, decided the BMW Rag Tops looked nice and mentioned it yo our large family, everyone else excoriated her, I said go rent one for a week and actually drive it with the top down, take a shawl for your hair and if you still like it, begin test driving as many as you can so you cn decide which color etc. you like .

Bow howdy, you'd think I'd told her to strap a mattress to her back and get a sign saying "CURB SERVICE $5" .

She followed my advice and bought a two year old lease return one and still loves it five years later .

Point being : if you think it moves your heart, go try one .

Precisely what I'm "afraid" of. I like the car now, if I drive it, I'll likely love it. Which will lead to much consternation and giving of grief from my beautiful bride.

Talking Well

Don't blame me ~ my ex Wife shoved off 25 years ago because of (she claimed) all those old cars, trucks and Motocycles ~ I'd go look at some old nail and it would follow me home, hilarity (?) ensured, she never seemed to notice the money I made on mostcof them .

I don't miss her very much at all, we're still good friends, my current sweetie I courted in a clapped out saved from the crusher Metropolitan Nash convertible, I drove her to Canada and back in it and of course it fried the LUCAS generator the first day out, we soldiered on and are stll to - gether 20 + years later, she doesn't mind my old vehicle habit, I don't smoke, drink to excess, do drugs etc., etc. .

There _are_ a few vehicles I flat refuse to try because I know I'll then have to get one .

I had a Bavaria. When I first got it it would barely run with its warped solex carbs and that early emission style advance/retard distributor. I modified the dist to match previous advance curves and got the car to accelerate, than bought a euro manifold and adapted a Quadrajet to it. After that it flew! It was a load of work though! Great ride and handling! ...rust prone though.
