Good bye Kepler .... it was great while it lasted
NASA shut down the Kepler Telescope and it will just drift. Originally launched in 2009 for a 3 yr mission.

Fifteen years beyond three year service life? Pretty damned goo engineering. As a taxpayer I approve.

Maybe I'm delusional but the one moon mission I could get behind would be placing a telescope on the surface. I don't think there's much by way of wind to deposit moon dust on the lenses, could have some sort of air blast cleaner for that one would think. If it could be made so that servicing could be done by robot missions, maybe replacement of modular bits, seems like it might be trick, dunno.

I like the overall concept but the logistics of transport and securing the unit...
