DON'T WAIT !
Well this sucks ;
We said our final good byes to Wally Escherich to - day, he was a die hard GearHead and good guy who we lost to some nasty disease before he turned 60 . Wally was not only a GearHead but a Mechanic and an honest one to boot . He loved his weird French Citroens and all station wagons, I met him long ago on a road rally, we were both driving some screwy foreign cars no one else cared about, he'd catch up to me at the food & gas stops or the hotel at end of day and swap bench / shop stores as we tinkered other driver's cars back to health for the next day . For many year Wally'd tell me ' I want to ride with you sometime to see how you go so fast in those jalopies of yours' (I don't actually go fast, I drive quickly, a very different thing) but it never quite happened, we were both always busy with life, raising a family and so on...... he only lived a hour or more East of me but I never quite made it out that way and now he's gone forever . Don't wit to long to go see those who you enjoy spending time with, to - morrow may never come .

At my age you realize you may only see distant old friends for the last time. Plus familiar places as well for the last time on your trips.
Commercial transportation was always higher in Canada than America. . Now it is substantially higher in the last few years. Overnight lodgings also seem to be getting up there as well. As you get older longer drives hold less attraction. It has to be a limiting factor in a lot of cases. Yet besides wear an tear on the vehicle. It only costs about 1/4 to use in comparison to commercial transportation here currently. For a husband and wife. |

Ground Travel
It was one of the better wakes I've ever been to .
FWIW, I used to travel by bus from time to time, it's not as scary as most seem to think and it's a good inexpensive way to travel with a large & bulky tool kit when you're off to rescue another jalopy . ? Did I mention how CHEAP 'Riding The Hound' is ? . Good for Old Men and when on vacation and you want to get the lay of tghe land . Wally really was a Renaissance (!SP !) man ~ he knew so many things and enjoyed sharing them with any and every one he met . He raised up a nice family, his son came and gave his ashes a good send off . Plus, more food that could possibly be consumed and a full cash bar so we had fun in spite of the rain . So many are gone in the blink of an eye ~ I began loosing friends in the 1960's it abated a bit through the 1980's & 1990's now it seems they're dropping like flies again .
