1998 & 1999 Mercedes e300 diesel cel
I have a check engine light on a 1999 e300. The scanner I've been using for years doesn't work on diesels.
Today I was on the highway and lost boost. Not being able to scan to review codes. I don't know where to start. My question is: Could someone point me in the right direction to buy a scanner that will work on a 1999 e300. I've tried to locate one but the ones I've found only work on 2001 and up. I can't be the only guy who's had this problem so there's an answer out there. Roddy Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk |

Inspect the intake system from the turbo discharge to the intake manifold to see if there are any hoses leaking/out of place.
You should be able to go by AutoZone or a place like that that reads for free and the get them to read the engine codes which should be all you need to read. Should be able to read engine codes through OBD port.

The scanners that are at the local auto parts stores are great if you have a gasoline engine. I called my O'Reilly store close to home and the guy at the store isn't sure if the scanner will work on diesels. But I'm going to give it a shot. As they say you never know unless you try.
But my bet is that it won't work on a diesel. Which is the point of my question. I need a scanner that is dedicated for use on a diesel. Especially an older one like I have. Still very cold here in Colorado some days. It's supposed to warm up Thursday and that's when I'll see if their scanner can pull up the codes. And delete them.
