yesterday morning a 6 am,driving to wal mart. I live in the country 8 miles to town. doing 40mph,see car in north lane stopped person outside waving flashlight.Thought police,or wreck.Looked carefully car with young gals 3.looked made sure no dudes hiding.She had hit curb going to fast and blew tire out.I looked front wheels going each other different ways,tie rod.
Told my wife later,and grandson over heard,said I was stupid to stop,might have killed me,so what,over 60 I don't care.He said he just floored by them,he came up the road behind me.
He has carry permit,and 45 cal. But this is not watts,so I was not afraid.
Feel bad I thought I raised them to care.

Call 911. Identify yourself and location. Turn around and go back. Look over situation. Use your instinct.

FWIW, I have always stopped to help after 911 call. Never had any problem. Like you, I live far out of any town and highly unlikely a crook would set up shop out here. Slim pickings. I’m armed.

I used to do research for others but found that unless THEY did themselves, it meant little. I'd suggest typing in the following into google, bing, etc and follow the results for at least 20 pages....

your mileage may vary but as for me and my house, I can screw up my life for HALF THE MONEY.

Helping Hands
 

Some folks are just paranoid or selfish .

I used to stop always to help, less and less as the years go by, I still stop when in the middle of nowhere as people CAN DIE in the Desert here, most habe no water, sun protection etc.....

As mentioned : go a ways, call 911 and give a report, go back and from a safe distance tell them help is coming .

Me, I'll stop, not afraid like some here seem to enjoy being .

And yet ;

The rest of use here instead of cowering in fear, go out and enjoy life .

I really do feel sorry for you hm .

I also stop but am not armed. The main danger is from other drivers who don't slow down when they see that a car has broken down and is at the side of the road. One of my best friends was killed in 1974 when she stopped to give assistance to a driver whose car had broken down on a freeway that runs through downtown Washington, D.C. It has been repeatedly confirmed to me since then that the principal danger to a good Samaritan who stops to help a driver in distress is the other drivers who don't even bother to slow down.

Sure, I might be speaking to those who don't care. And I understand that.

Many might be familiar with the story of the Good Samaritan.

A legal expert stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to gain eternal life?”

Jesus replied, “What is written in the Law? How do you interpret it?”

He responded, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

Jesus said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.”

But the legal expert wanted to prove that he was right, so he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Jesus replied, “A man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He encountered thieves, who stripped him naked, beat him up, and left him near death. Now it just so happened that a priest was also going down the same road. When he saw the injured man, he crossed over to the other side of the road and went on his way. Likewise, a Levite came by that spot, saw the injured man, and crossed over to the other side of the road and went on his way. A Samaritan, who was on a journey, came to where the man was. But when he saw him, he was moved with compassion. The Samaritan went to him and bandaged his wounds, tending them with oil and wine. Then he placed the wounded man on his own donkey, took him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day, he took two full days’ worth of wages and gave them to the innkeeper. He said, ‘Take care of him, and when I return, I will pay you back for any additional costs.’ What do you think? Which one of these three was a neighbor to the man who encountered thieves?”

Then the legal expert said, “The one who demonstrated mercy toward him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10.25-37 CEB)


Dr Martin Luther King Jr commented on this tale, suggesting that the reason for the legal expert and the Priest for passing by was that they had fear for their own lives.

"“On the parable of the Good Samaritan: "I imagine that the first question the priest and Levite asked was: 'If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' But by the very nature of his concern, the good Samaritan reversed the question: 'If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”"

As Hurricane Rita approached the shore a friend of mine went to help a friend evacuate from Pecan Island. On the return trip they came over a bridge at night to see an hysterical woman desperate for help. They pulled ahead of her and stopped. The woman was very agitated and waving her arms wildly While gyrating in front of oncoming traffic. Her arm got snagged on a speeding truck that dragged her and pulled her forearm off! Truck kept going.

They dragged her out of the road and applied a tournequet while calling 911. A nearby ambulance came and got her. My buddy and his friend were spattered in blood.
