If you have the chance this week do yourself a favour and go see Apollo 11 in the theatre, some beautiful never seen 70mm film footage, absolut breathtaking.

Never realised that it took over 400.000 people to get three on the moon.

It was a massive undertaking. Hard to believe what they were able to accomplish with drafting board and a slide rule. Then again, the Egyptians and other cultures were able to accomplish quite a bit with far less than that.

Several years ago we went down to Houston and visited the Johnson Space Center. Got to see the original mission control where Gene Kranz ran the show. They also have the actual Apollo 17 Saturn V disassembled and laying on its side. Never realized how big that thing was. Seeing it up close really brings it home.

Visited Johnson Space Center a couple of years ago when I was in Houston for work. And even that the size of Saturn is really impressive, what really impressed me is how small the capsule is. It's tiny.

I worked on one of the Apollo tracking ships, the USNS Vanguard. It is true that what was accomplished with relatively stone-age technology is amazing. We were all so proud of being part of it.

That sort of National endeavor is probably lost forever.
