First, I'm not a doctor nor have I had any formal medical training. That said, I have several family members who are heart patients and have lived through their ordeals for the past 40 years.

If you feel you are having heart issues, best to see a cardiologist. Ask them to give you a thorough exam including blood work, echocardiogram and EKG. This gives both your doctor and yourself a good baseline to work from.

Apple computer has incorporated some VERY impressive features for monitoring the heart into their Apple Watch. The watch isn't inexpensive, but then again heart issues can become VERY expensive so one has to weigh the pros and cons of buying an Apple Watch.

My two cents......

I have had two visits in the past, that turned out to be anxiety attacks. So I will not go unless passed out.

It's difficult to drive yourself to the hospital when you are passed out. Hopefully, in the event you do pass out, someone will be around to take you to the hospital or call the ambulance.

I have not had a heart attack but as a street medic for 15 years I have attended many.

Symptoms can vary all over the place. If you have one or more of the following, take two aspirins immediately and call 911.
- persistent pain in arm (usually right arm), back or jaw
- difficulty breathing
- sudden and persistent chest pain
- persistent dizziness and nausea

Don't try to be a hero. Us old guys have to be alert for symptoms. Death sucks.

I had a big one about twenty-five years ago. I didn't feel any pain or chest pressure. I just became disoriented and my speech was badly slurring.

A major hospital was less than one mile away. A friend drove me over. I could not walk so I sure was not going to drive.

Mine was bought on by a trip to see a client that led to 36 hours of no sleep. I spent four days in the hospital and six months in recovery. Fortunately my job, if you can call it that, consists of not much more than sitting at a desk for a few hours and then sipping coffee while I think about how to move a plot along.

I am not the world's most active person.

I was told I had a few months to live. All I had the energy to do was drop dead so this bit of a heads up was wasted on me.

I see a heart doc now and then. They always tell me I'm in perfect condition heart wise. So even having a major attack, if you live through it, is not the end of the world.

Passing out unexpectedly can have consequential effects. I had a relative who had a fatal heart attack while driving his car. Fortunately no one else was injured in the resultant car accident. Stop rationalizing, NOW, and get to a doctor or an ER.

P.S.: Cardiovascular problems don't always equate to cardiac problems (e.g., stroke). Why not address this now, before something irreversible develops?

A local woman went through the drive-through at the local mcdonald's. When she pulled away, the brakes on the toyota ceased to function. The car was rapidly moving towards a retaining wall. She stood on the brake pedal using BOTH feed and ALL of her weight! The car ended up crashing into the wall injuring her.

The police arrived and took her to the hospital. She told the ER doc what had happened. The police officer then informed the doc that he was going to write up his police report showing 'syncope' as the cause of the accident. Doctor looked the cop straight in the eye and said, "I don't believe syncope had ANYTHING to do with her accident." Cop replied, "I say it was syncope and that is what I am going to put in my police report". Cop then turned and walked off.......

You'll see a cardiologist quicker in an ER.

Try and engage your brain cells and think about THE following:

1. Cops make thouands of so-called "legal determinations each and every day, do they NOT????? And yet, the majority of them do not have a degree in law. Go figure....

2. This particular cop believes he knows more than a doctor. Arrogance? Stupidity? I'm not sure, but the doctor is convinced both he and the patient witnessed the FALSIFYING of a police report by a ......(drum roll)....COP!!!

NEWS FLASH: Some toyotas have had brake failures......

quote from the following news article concerning Toyota system failures:

"While the car is careening down the highway at speeds estimated to exceed 100 mph, one of the occupants calls 911 and reports that the car has "no brakes." All four are killed in the ensuing crash."

Some people aren't smart enough to turn off the engine, or take the foot off the throttle (which they think is the brake). If you have enough time to call 911, you have time to throw the car into neutral and/or shut it off.
