Some doctors do not provide enough pain relief. One story I heard a few times is a fear of creating an addiction. That to me is BS.

The practice here now is to inform the staff if you are in pain. They no longer just let doctors leave people in pain. It is felt and proven they claim that recovery is quicker when pain is relieved. So it saves money as well. It certainly is easier on you too. . They actually have a sign in each room. Very emphatically making a point of it.

The last time when they worked on me for most of the day. I never felt a twinge of anything after. Actually it was only after the third day that I found out they where killing any pain with a tube feeding into my spine. After five days when I left the hospital it was as if I had nothing done. They only kept me the fifth day because my potassium level was down. Apparently this can result with a long operation.

Now if they can only figure out someday how to make hospital food better. I am not a fussy eater. Yet they exceed my tolerance from time to time. They must have a cookbook on how to serve food cold and sometimes leaving it up to you to figure out what it is. You have a choice of what you want for each meal so it is best to work it.

With no pain I got out of the bed and went to the washroom with no discomfort perhaps three hours after I woke up. The first question I asked when the surgeon visited me after. Why do I have an incision under my armpit? He told me that is how I hooked up your kidneys.

A bonus was our member got in at least in time to prevent a real heart attack with the resulting muscle damage. That was the best news. Most indications he posted it was getting really close to the onset of a major event.

You only get one chance to heal properly.
Survived 5 bypasses 9/3/91. About 2 months later, I had a silent heart attack. Scarring on right side disrupted my current and I went into Ventricular taccyhachardia a runaway heart rhythm. Fortunately my cardiologist sent me to an arrhythmia specialist (via a helicopter ride). it was touch and go the first day, but I pulled through. 11 years on amiodarone and had an pacemaker defibrilator implanted in 2002.

Things went fine and the defibrillator never woke up and kicked me until two weeks after hip surgery just before Christmas this past December. The pain of a defibilator is like a mule kicking you in the chest to break the rapid beat. Mine fired about 6-8 times form the time it began until the ambulance came and about 6 more times in the ambulance until the amiodarone and lydocane stopped it. I had another heart attack after the hip replacement. The power used to kick me took about 2 years off the battery life.

I was told by a doctor during pre-admission testing the average life of grafts is somewhere between 20- 25 years. 3 of mine closed after about 10 years. The other two are still working ok. The LAD (aka the widow maker) is 25% closed, but that's not a particular risk.

I hope no one here has to ever call 911 for their own health problems. I'll say this, the mule kicker almost certainly saved my life.

Wish you the best, Old Sinner.

I certainly do not wish to upset you, but those numbers seem high, are they new lows for you?
