I might have believed that had I not heard so many complaints about SW cost cutting on maintenance in the years preceding.

Maintenance is one of those easy targets for the bean counters. It happens in the invisible background and if the planes don't fall out of the sky nobody thinks there's a problem. Until it happens by which time it's too late.

All the marketing bumpf and pr crap in the world can't make a silk purse of a sows ear. Hopefully someone in their management understands that running an airline is about more than PR culture.

There have been complaints about th maint from all the airlines. I am not aware of any US airlines that perform.all their own maint. I know when I worked for AA, most.of th heavy maint was carried.out by over seas 3rd party facilities. That was the beef with all.the other carriers as well.

The FAA could recommend that Congress pass a law that mandates in house maint but they have a conflict of interest with the airlines. The NTSB has not authority. Whats an airline to do? How much more do.we.want to pay for air travel? It's just like the immigration issue. Some b!tch and whine about the immigrants as they are buying cheap produce and calling for a lawn care service.

The airlines so far, are safe so they airlines get away with it.

I knew a few who didn't do death notices out of their concern over the matter.
I'm not a member of this minority.

Well. Therein lies the rub doesn't it? How much are the lives of you and your family worth to you?

I would like to see maintenance kept in house or at least US based. I'd also like to.see the FAA out of investigations and safety policy. They have a conflict of interest and I think they do a piss poor job. Leave that stuff up to the NTSB

Years back I spoke with an AA mechanic who gave me his take on maintenance. He believed that due to lack of monies, budget airlines are unable to perform adequate maintenance. He may have been onto something.....
