Kentucky Derby

I watched the race. We were at a derby party. We had a drawing and I had Maximum Security. So I was watching it intently. At the end it was clear that my Jocky was doing some serious moving around on the track. In Nascar it would be called trading paint. I hopped up and said did you see that jock! Some very courageous riding there.

Then the other guy protested and we had to sit around for a half hour while they looked at tape. I'll have to say the derby's camera work is inferior to Nascar's...or college hoops as an example.

I also said it was a small miracle that no horse fell.

I don't know the rules but assumed it would be left alone as the movement was complex and not all that clear.

My guess is there will be plenty of lawsuits over it as there was other aggressive riding. The yellow hat guy who was declared winner as an example moved left as they came off the turn and pinched at least two other horses.

I also think the jock on Max did not come off well in the interview. He acted guilty and mumbled his answers. When asked about his move to the right he said the horse was running away with him. A little preparation might have helped him to speak in a more effective way.

Finally found vid of the race:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci_ychn7ga0

Does look a bit rough in a couple of spots. I'm guessing it has to be that swerve, a couple maybe, towards the end of the final turn, at about the 2:00 mark. Didn't look like it really ruined the chances of any horse though. No wait, War of Will did seem to get thrown off momentum pretty bad.

Looked to me as if he ran into the rump of Maximum Security throwing him off stride and dampening his pace, which distracted Max and caused him to stop turning and to go straight, which made it look as if he swerved right.

I think Max got screwed. lawsuits to follow no doubt!

Yeah, but the best horse and jockey should win too.

unless they can't keep it together for the entire event and screw up. Or why even have the race? just appoint a winner!

You make a good point, but was the foul egregious enough to take away the race?
