How I lost 30 pounds

* Egg sandwich in morning
* lunch is controlled calorie meal between 370-600 calories. Doesn’t really matter low to high, followed by piece of fruit. I usually get some kind of good quality frozen meal.
* 1 oz of nuts before dinner and 1 rye crisp cracker with whatever I want on it. The nuts are oily and fill me up. The rye crisp swells in my stomach and makes me feel full.
* Dinner is whatever I want. I find I’m eating about half as much at dinner due to the rye crisp and nuts.
* dessert (always) is half a portion ice cream bar.

When I go out I eat whatever I want and as much as I want.

The key are the nuts, rye crisp, and controlled calorie lunch.

And the ice cream to satisfy sweet and fat cravings.

One more thing. I don’t drink soda/soft drinks.

Thumbs up Weight Loss

Very good ! .

I recently lost 16#, still over 200, I wish I could get back to my younger days weight of 185 but doubt that will ever happen at this late date .

Loosing weight helps your heart and eases wear on the knees too .

An old school chum called me last night and mentioned he's now 560 #, he says this is O.K. because he can also bench press 500 + #, it doesn't quite work that way.....

Keep up the great work and don't worry if you back slide a bit .

Don’t give up. Try the rye crisp and nuts (nuts are very good for you but only 1 ounce per day).

I’m old. I remember when jfk died. You’re not too old.
I’m at my college weight.

At this weight for 4 years now. It’s permanent.

I eat everything, just less.

The food industry keeps making portions bigger. It’s a trick.

And I don’t buy crap food. No factory farmed chicken. I also eat wild salmon and wild shrimp. Farmed shrimp is filthy.
There’s a huge difference in flavor.

Red meat (I love it) once a month or so.

Had lamb chops last night.

Thumbs up

I hear you and I also remember when JFK was shot, I'm old too .

I'm also all broken up now so I can't move and exercise as I'd like to, I still walk as much as I can, kick start my Motocycle, rake my leaves and trim my Citrus tree and hedges the best I can, all of this helps keep my heart going and my limbs flexible .

Keto diet.

I couldn't lose weight for the longest time, finally bought a scale and used an app (Carb Manager for Apple) to chart my food. First day weighing up my food I realized why I couldn't lose weight before, my portions were, by eye, much larger than the calories that I should be taking in.

First ~month was a bit rough, as my body stopped craving carbs while it converted over to burning my fat, but once that happened I haven't been hungry like I used to get when I was eating a higher carb diet (~20grs per day now vs ~300-400 then).

Bottom line, reduce the insulin roller coaster in the blood stream and the part of the diet that's the hardest to overcome, the craving for food, goes away.

20lbs down since the first of this year (calorie restriction was modest, I did not want to 'fail' because I couldn't resist overeating) and no issues with cravings up to this point.

The ultimate goal is to lose 10 more pounds then transition to a 3 week Mediterranean diet/ 1 week keto. Mediterranean relaxes the carb restrictions, which allows more fruit and whole grains back into the diet for a more balanced meal plan.

As one of the folks at work said, losing weight is straightforward, it's just not easy. Eat less calories and you'll lose, eat more and you'll gain. For me, the key was to control the cravings, and the Keto diet was very effective in that regard.

Eggs. Good or bad?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/22/well/eat/should-you-be-eating-eggs.html

As we age we actually need to increase our protein intake to prevent muscle wastage.

And of course, exercise. Specifically, weight training. Go light or you may injure yourself. We ain’t what we were...

Therein lies the rub Paul ;

Being old you prolly remember when they said an egg would be the perfect meal if only you could digest the shell....

As it turns out I had a late brunch to - day, a meat lover's omlet, tater tots with lots of salsa, hobo soup and salad plus an english muffin with marmalade.....

Don't kill me please, I'm old, fat and broken up already .

I lost some weight with keto a few years back, net loss about 10lbs (20 loss then 10 back after i stopped the diet). After that, I lost about 60 just doing intermittent fasting. It works great with my general day to day and Ive kept the weight off for good. Not everyone likes it, but it works great for me.

Congrats!!

I've lost 43lbs since January by calorie deficit and low carbs. I need to lose another 20-30 lbs, and this last bit it being stubborn.

I'm down 112 since the beginning of 2017.

Cost of food has risen very fast in Canada. Hope not so much south of the border. Some people will be on a semi diet as a result.

This is just an observation. It is a problem for some and could get a lot worse if the trend continues. I realized last year for the first time in a long time. It pays to grow a garden now. It never really did for most of my life.As long as you had a reasonable income stream.

What I did think about is in general for most people food was just a small percentage of their income. Where the percentage has been increasing steadily. Current regular prices. Asparagus 6.99 a pound staple things like turnip and potatoes are way up. Canned goods as well in general. Steak is about 13.00 a pound. Milk is over 8.00 an American gallon. Hamburger 5.00 a pound. Strawberrys 5.00 a box. Grapes 4.00 a pound. Bread 3.00 a loaf.

Still in north America we pay less in overall percentage of income for food than most countries in the world. Or we are just playing catch up now. As for diets the wife decided she wanted a little weight off me many years ago.

So she designed a diet for me that was really working. Applying pressure to stay with her program for me. So I asked her. What are you trying to do? Turn me into a rabbit? She told me that was the general ideal.
