Western Ohio Tornados
 

Wow, what a storm that was. I and my family are accounted for and unharmed, but my daughter lost part of her house, and my brother lost his garage/shop. Insurance was in place for each property, but the damage is extensive.

I'm concerned for my daughter, since she survived a house fire in 2007, and now a tornado in 2019. She's showing great strength for her husband and kids, but I'm worried where her breaking point is...she's yet to shed a tear, or show fear.

Damn, that's a hell of a strong woman that my wife, myself, and my ex-wife raised...

I don't get it, what's the big deal? Isn't that like a daily occurrence in fly over country? Aren't they used to it by now?

We are having extensive flooding in Nebraska. Again. My house is cut off since my road is under water. I am getting the tools ready to rebuild the road. Again.

At lesst there is no water in the house or garage. And I have plenty of food, water and necessary medications. So a few days of forced rest will probably do me some good.

SWMBO's Sister lives in Oklahoma and luckily was out of town with her new Man when they touched down a few miles West and tore things up real good .

Does Ohio typically get serious tornados? I thought it was pretty well North. Anyways it was good that there were no physical injuries in the family.

I have no love for regulation enforcements. At the same time roof structures are still poorly attached to dwellings. If I think a roof is to be exposed to some serious wind exposure even here. Where we have no tornados. Just the occasional tail end of hurricanes usually.

I actually bolt the trusses on. It takes little time and cost. Yet if the roof goes the wall has to as well. Wood framed structures are just not strong enough in general to cope with real tornados though at the same time.

From what I have observed over the years. The tract builders in Florida. A known hurricane area. Have been building far too thin for the region. The carnage after one goes through is all too obvious.

My daughter is still without water...we temporarily moved her and her family down to us. My brother is still without power...he has well water, and without a power source, he has no water. We were able to get his set up with our generator, though, so he's got enough power for the well and his cold foods.

It's been confirmed that 20 hit the Miami Valley in Monday night's storm...well above average. 35 hit the state that night. The largest was an F3, and only one fatality from the storm when a vehicle flew into a house, killing an 81 year old male.

Our church is a Red Cross center, and we've been re-stocking the church's pantry, which is being used to feed the Red Cross program. I've been out since Tuesday morning, pulling trees and disabled vehicles out of the way for homeowners in Beavercreek, and hauling debris to the dumping site for folks...it's about all I am able to do to help them.

It's been a busy week...but with only one death, our region was lucky. Twisters usually hit north of Dayton or east in the Beavercreek/Xenia area. Our worst one was in 1974...EF-5 hit Xenia and wiped out much of the town.

To me, it seems as if the weather patterns are more like they were in the 1970's with longer Winters, an actual Spring before Summer, and a hot Summer. The last 35 years or so, Spring would only be a week long before the sweltering Summer heat. This year, it was colder longer, which has gone a long way to spike the Twister numbers.
