WalMart sells fireworks here in the store-never seen anything like that living in Ca all my life. When I was a kid we would buy them in Chinatown in San Francisco.

FIREWORKS !

Thanx fellas, Moms was never an overly happy person I hope she's in a happier place now and feel sorry I was such a wild child before I left home .

Some cites in So. Cal. allow fireworks stands, other do not so it's no wonder kids grow up not learning how to handle them safely .

When I was very little I was allowed to hold, light and rub around with as many sparklers as I wanted, now I look back and think of burning gunpowder and a red hot metal rod that could so easily blind a running child and shudder .

I used to be one of those who'd put on a large display, usually out in the Desert for safety reasons, now I want to crawl under the bed, getting old has it's down sides  .

I hope all and sundry have a great holiday, remember : climbing up on the garage's roof usually gets you the best free seats to be had .

Just don't be drunk as that damn ladder has a mind of it's own sometimes . :P

We went to my sisters place on a lake near vandalia Mi. The grandkids had a ball swimming and goofing off in the water. I had too much to eat and laid around most of the time. Back home now.

The big fireworks will be going off soon and the puppy will be seeking shelter under my chair or on my lap.

Happy Independence day all!

Thanks. Not dark for fireworks until 10 being the west most point in the states. There is still dusk at 10:30. If the fog doesn't come in can see them from the porch.
BTW my neighbor here has a Cobra recreation-it's a early 289 version.

Cool, if starting from scratch I'd build the 289 FIA version.

I was reading in bed when one of our Foster boys came and got me, the local yahoos really put on the hell of a show last night, after an hour of watching and swiveling my head around I tired and went in to bed and sleep, when I got up slightly after midnight there were still fireworks going off.....

Some of the boobs down the block repeatedly set off ground bursts in the gutter between parked cars and also shot rockets through the trees, several getting caught in the branches .

SWMBO had me clean up and light off the BBQs, then we (Brandon actually) cooked up twenty links, the boys ate most of them, voracious 12 year olds :D .

Well July the first is Canada day. Rained heavy the two days before as well as the day. Everything was cancelled locally.

Our dogs fear the sound of fireworks. Most dogs probably do not like them.

One or two news items of note. They put a tracking device on an eight hundred pound great white shark off Florida. They located it just off the beaches of New Jersey before July the fourth. In shallow waters.

People that knew this still went swimming there. I do not have a phobia about larger sharks. At the same time I would not purposely swim in an area where there was one for certain.

Many issues on the hotplate this summer up here. The majority of people want the immigration stopped. It is applying too much pressure on available housing etc. Personally I tend to agree as perhaps 95 percent seem to go to the largest cities we have. Countries that the replacement birthrate has dropped off. Need more bodies.

It might be better and cheaper to just pay people for having children. Financially the large cities cannot cope with providing all the required infustructure otherwise.

China is really putting more and more financial pressure on Canada. All Canadian meat product is also now banned from here. They claim we abducted a citizen of theirs on a political basis. Under American pressure.

Like Trump our leader has said he will financially help those concerns and individuals impacted. My guess this is semi truthful at best. We are really starting to see the dollar costs add up. I believe China will really do a number on us if we hand her over to the American justice system.

Their strategy may be sound. If handed over a lot more Chinese imports from America may be stopped. As well as from here. My guess is the American system no longer really wants her and the issue. China has made it very clear they will not negotiate on American terms.

The Canadian government has been asking for clarification on this issue with no response from Washington they claim. China wants the tarrifs removed and the American government have found them to be a lucrative new tax. As was their real intent originally. So never probably had any intent of removing them. Otherwise the income tax reductions for corporations and the wealthy could not have been implemented.

If she broke laws punishment should be addressed by her own country. I did not think American law extended to outside their territorial borders anyways. This approach has been a costly error I believe. On the allowing the export to her fathers company to resume. It is a little late as the Chinese are making provisions for this to never happen again. What American enterprises built for them . Is going to be replaced by China and other countries.

The resumption of supply is too late. The need will take some time but overall that component is lost of the American economy. How many trillions of dollars will have been lost over time for grabbing this woman is uncertain.

Dogs & Fireworks

I was amazed to see a man out walking his dog in the middle of the fireworks, the dog may have been deaf as it was as calm as a cucumber....

The Foster boy who got me out of bed said he did so because he was frightened by all the noise......

Lots of stuff out there that you just cant see. We are fairly close to cape may here in DE, meaning the shark would have swam right by here. I often see folks pull up threshers, sand, bull, hammerheads and dogfish on the beach, plenty of stingrays too. Don't go in the water at all if it is a concern...they generally wont bother you.

Exactly my thoughts ....and I don't go in much.

barry12345 07-05-2019 12:09 PM

I go into the ocean without any concern. A great white working well inshore for a food supply can be a concern though. Depends on clarity of the water etc. Apparently sharks do not usually attack people intentionally. The noise we make swimming sounds like something in distress to them. So they probably have a look quite often.

Sometimes just bite to get a taste of what they suspect could be desirable prey. If hungry.

The bull shark that went way up the fresh water river in New Jersey decades ago and killed some people swimming. Is one specis known for aggression.

Some of their negative behaviors towards humans may be based on the lack of adequate available normal food supplies. In a given area. This particular great white has travelled fairly fast up from Florida was reported.
