Chinese clock rant

So in my parents house there was an inexpensive kitchen wall clock-the kind that takes a "AA" battery. I kept it as a keepsake in the garage. It was probable 40 years old and the movement quit. So I ordered a new movement from Ebay. It lasted less than 6 mos. A few weeks later I walked by a dumpster and there was a smashed clock laying by it. I spied the movement in it and it's been running for a while now in my clock. Funny how things work out.

Is the moral of the story, don't buy cheap chit from China, or it will be in the trash can soon.. That would be my guess.

There is no moral but I am amazed at the range of quality one can expect of goods from China. I have been very impressed at times but disappointed at others. I bought some irrigation fittings and was very impressed at the quality and price.

Post Cheap Vs. Inexpen$ive Goods

Just so Tony ;

If you're old you'll remember when "! Made In Japan ! " was the common cry, things are similar to - day as China certainly can make very good things affordably but at the same time there's a cultural thing that says 'meh, that's good enough (shrug)' and there's even a word for it, people die in China because if this piss poor attitude .

I have some very nice Chinese tools but mostly it's all crap that they don't care if you're happy with or want to come back and spend more.....

Who did they copy, and actually get it right? What item from China do we need and did not have here at a slightly higher price, maybe some teas.

Post Chinese Products

On the flip side, I have some Alltrade brand Mechanic's tools from the 1980's and they're going strong....
