Guys, this is stunning. Just profiled in an English magazine. 555bhp AMG 7.3 V12 redlined at 7000 rpm. 0-62mph in 3.7secs. The first Mercedes engine to do that. Handbuilt everything. All carbonfibre weighing in at a gross 1300kg. Lots of leather and aluminium indoors. At current exchange rates about US$450-500K. Pagani is an Argentinian building cars in Italy. He's a friend of Juan-Manuel Fangio, who sourced the factory engines for him. 30+ built so far. He's anal about this project. According to the UK mag the AMG guys at the most recent show to launch the SL55AMG just talked about the "Pagani Zonda S".

Sounds like it's a challenge for the Italians. :D

This car is getting a lot of coverage in the UK at present. Evo magazine has been one big advertisement for it for about 12 months now, the writers there seem to wet their pants about the car on a regular basis. Now Car has taken up its case. Certainly it has very impressive performance credentials, and build quality is excellent. However, one has to question some aspects of the constructor's taste. It's a tad vulgar.
The engine--or a version of it--was available in the "to special order only" R129 SL73 AMG. |
