Thumbs up Almost There (?)

THANK YOU ! .

I wish you'da said something earlier .

As it turned out, I took my old HP lap top in to have the SSD installed and they guy didn't do what I asked and it kept shutting off before I could get it OnLine so I took it back and he was very pleasant and said he'd do what I'd asked and see why it was shutting down, he called me and said the power supply I was using wasn't the correct one but it's been working just fine for years now so who knows ? .

I thought the battery was bad because it only works on the power supply, he says he used a different power supply and it's fine now so mayhap I'll need to buy another (hopefully used and affordable) power supply .

He says it stays charged up over night and it stopped doing that two years ago, why I thought the battery was kaput .

He texted me this afternoon (Fri. 8.16) and said to come get it Saturday but one of my Foster boy's new school ('Academy') so I may not be able to get it until next week .

We'll see, stand by please .

Please shoot me an E-Mail or P.M. with your particulars & contact info because I'm sure you'll come in handy .

My requirements were pretty simple. Has to be a solid aluminum metal chassis. My last laptop was plastic and basically disintegrated. I kid you not: I was on my laptop and the whole thing started fritzing out. When I went to pick it up, the plastic case separated and that was that!

Nate if you ever need computer help, just come up to the valley. I'll fix you up for beer or green. :p

I used to work in IT and still regularly disassemble my computers and have all of the tools to drop in new hardware. There's still a lot of opportunity for easy disassembly in computers with the exception of the 2016+ Macs.

What computer did you ultimately get?
Where's my invite?

I'm actually headed down to LA this coming October... We should finally get that beer!

Hey! Crazy it's been like eight years since I was last here. I sent you a message on FB with my number. Hit me up when you're here.

Thanx for all the ideas and help fellas .

In the end I paid $136 (IIRC) to have a new SSD installed, he also removed my firefox, AVG and CCleaner......

I took it and it failed twice, shutting down before fully booting up so I took it back and asked him to migrate everything from the old hard drive like I'd asked, he sort of did so, still no CCleaner ,

I downloaded and added that and am using it right now, everything seems O.K.,

Whew .

He said the computer is fine but so old that I shouldn't put another penny into it, he doubts it'll need any further repairs though .

Onwards.....

Damn, CCleaner? I haven't used that software in years.

You shouldnt need it anymore with an SSD. Fragmentation isn't an issue anymore and windows 10 is pretty robust software.

And i say this as a desktop support veteran!
