hard seats
my seats must be really worn - they are so hard my rear end hurts something awful after a two hour drive. i can drive for hours in the family van of the same vintage. will a new / newer-used seat help matters? what goes bad on these seats? i have MBTex and the skin is still in pretty good shape, so i can probably reuse that so that match won't be a problem...

The Horse hair stuffing goes bad most of the time. They are kinda expensive to replace too. Unless you get lucky and find some in a junk yard. I got 2 seats for the BMW for 40 bucks and they were in good shape too.

I've always had the same complaint with my '91 300CE.
I took it in to a seat shop for re-stuffing, but I felt little difference. What worked for me is one of those lumbar wedges made of foam rubber. I don't have or have ever had a bad back, so I was skeptical when it was suggested to me. It did work. Try it. If it doesn't work, you're only out $10. Phil |
now i've come across a reference to an "orthopedic seat" option. i wonder if it can be retrofitted - from what i can see, all it has is a lumbar adjustment - not sure if it's pneumatic or what...
