I saw a chrome 427 Cobra yesterday

I have never seen a chrome car before. It was driving out of a car show I went to yesterday. I don't know if paint can imitate chrome but it looked pretty convincing what ever it was. It was gone before I could get a picture.

Maybe this. Don't give TW any ideas.

Also could have been polished aluminum. Not my cup of tea. I like the Tangerine just fine.

Yea it was not a wrap. Maybe polished. I did not like it anyway. I guess they can paint it after a few tickets.

More like a little time with a heat gun to liberate the wrap from the underlying body...

Saw this on BAT:https://bringatrailer.com/listing/original-owner-496-powered-kirkham-427-sc-cobra-replica/
Exactly(maybe even the same one) as the one I saw.

Over on the Club Cobra Forum there was also a brass bodied car that was polished and a copper bodied car that sold recently....in the last year or less. Pretty astonishing to see but not really practical.

Really! I wonder how they got chrome to adhere to aluminum?

There are quite a few airplane enthusiasts that have polished aluminum airplanes. The labor required to get it that way and keep it that way is incredible.

Tony H 07-04-2020 01:23 AM

It's polished I believe. Probably a lot of effort to keep it looking like that.

t walgamuth 07-04-2020 01:09 PM

Actually there is a fair number of polished aluminum cobras out there. It is a distinctive look.

Air&Road 07-04-2020 01:11 PM

The airplanes that are thoroughly polished do indeed appear to be chrome plated.

BWhitmore 07-04-2020 01:12 PM

I believe the polished aluminum Cobras are a product of a company in Poland.

t walgamuth 07-05-2020 09:21 AM

That is true, but I would not be surprised at them being built other places too.

It is impossible to chrome plate aluminum? I would think you can chrome anything that will support electrical current.

Since aluminum is fairly easy to polish no need to chrome...?

The guys over at club cobra are saying the polished car would be over 200K new today and are predicting a sale price from 120 to 150K. It will be interesting to see how it comes out.

t walgamuth 07-09-2020 11:12 AM

Apparently it sold with commission for $135K.
