Question Coin Heads/Tails = Bad Luck

O.K. all ;

A new one for me :

To - day I spotted a brand new penny lying on the floor and told one of my Foster boys : " since you're always begging for $, learn it's value by picking up and saving that penny " .

Both boys (12 & 13 Y.O.) looked aghast at me and said " ! no way ! it's tails up, touching it will bring you bad luck ! " .

Is this a thing ? .

I'd never heard of it before .

Comments please, elucidate me at will .

Never heard of it. Try placing a coin heads up in a few days in a different location to see what they say.

Red face Head/Tails & Luck

Well ;

It was in the chicken shack and of course, as we walked out to the car I had a little balance bobble (remember : I'm crippled and need a cane to prevent falling, mostly a balance thing) so the began hooting " !! SEE !?!? we TOLD YOU not to pick it up !! " .

Kids : can't live with 'em, not allowed to shoot 'em.....

Oh, wait ! that's Wimmen ! .

The penny was discontinued in Canada a few years back. To me it was amazing just how fast they totally vanished from circulation. I used to throw the pennies in my change into a large glass antique bottle. Perhaps of fifteen gallons capacity. You cannot lift it and is far from full.

I see the wife is now throwing small silver into it. Like nickles, dimes, and quarters. Yet since we almost have stopped using physical money now. The level is now rising very slow. I actually do not like having change on me anymore. It reminds me that it once had some buying power.

Would I pick up change on the ground today? As I feel it is almost worthless probably not. Oddly enough Younger children might pick up a penny in Canada. Out of curiosity to see what it is. We have the one and two dollar coin in heavy circulation. The five dollar coin is overdue. We no longer have the one and two dollar bill.

Heads up = good luck. Tails up = bad luck. Wife grew up with the superstition not to pick up a tails up penny. She says you're supposed to kick them. I will often turn them over to heads up and leave them for someone to come along and get the good luck.
