Electric Mustang

In a word ... NO....... This is not a Mustang. Too many doors, no visual cues from the actual mustang (except the tail lights). All I see is an electric SUV. Not sure what Fords plan is with this but I do not see how using the Mustang name on this SUV makes any sense. The Mach E will do 0-60 in 3.5 so that is not too shabby. I just do not get the name. It's not a Mustang, never will be. Its a SUV, why not just go with that?

Ford wants to spend some of the Mustang brand equity on a vanillamobile. Too bad. I’m wondering when the Mustang minivan will debut...

Remember when everyone poo pooed Porsche for building an SUV? That income ended up saving the company. Where's GM's mass market EV crossover? Where's FCA's? Ford has an EV F150 in the works and now this. 5 years from now everyone will be looking back asking why is GM and FCA so far behind.

I do not think Porsche is a fair comparison. If Porche came out with the Cayane but named it the 911, that would have been an issue and a fair comparison.

Ford announced a EV SUV. No big deal. They could have named it what ever they wanted to. They chose to use the Mustang label for what ever reason. The Mustang has always been a 2 door sports car. It has never ever had 4 doors. My issue is not the vehicle but the name. I think it is stupid and will diminish the labels panache.

There is nothing so elastic as what can get the mustang name. Hard to see where this is worth getting upset over.

As far as 4 doors they were thinking of doing that way back in 1965. Surprised it took them this long, especially with the charger as an example.

Nobody under the age of 50 cares and they will sell more units because of the name. That's all that matters. The fact that they're willing to use the mustang name on this EV and not any other 4 door shows how important this model is to Ford. Seeing how 2 door mustang sales have been trending over the years, this might save the brand.

I think they should have gone with an old badge name of theirs. The Thunderbolt or even bend it a bit (like Beckham) the Thundervolt. Ok, some might say that is close to the Chevy's Volt. It is good to seen some Crossover vehicles get electrified. I think GM should have done this with the Volt platform.

So does VW with the CC. Never could wrap my head around that idea either.

Eff this noise, I want an electric Miata-like or MR2-like sports car. Cheap, cheerful, open roof, minimum safety hardware required by law, and fun to drive, if not the fastest thing in the world.

That's fine but do you want a electric Miata or MR2 with 4 doors, a hatch, trailer hitch and a roof rack?

Nah, but I wouldn't mind something like a 3-series or 190-series sized car with those features.
