Rod Stewart reveals his 26 yr project model railroad.

Very cool. Growing up I had a small HO scale railroad. Dad and I built it on a 4x8 plywood base. We had two different tracks and a slot car track on it (not to scale but we liked it). Fun times.

A friend who visited his house told me about this, never realised it was of this scale.

I had HO scale (roughly) slot car set up that I gave away in the 70's, and then given all the cars back in 2000 when they cleaned out their basement. Found that there was a level crossing made for HO trains when the boys were small, and that was enough to make me want to build two sets of tracks and a racing loop. Get the trains running, and the boys would try to avoid (or not) getting the car they were controlling run over by the train. Good times!

That's quite the set up he has going!

A cut above the Sims game IMO. Cool on some level but way obsessive for my money.

I dig real trains however. Part of why I hopped freights as a young man. I’ll never forget going in to San Louie Obispo. Caught the train in LA, this in ‘74. They put another couple of engines in the middle because they go down around a broad sweeping turn, well, not all that broad, you look out at the tail end of the train going the opposite direction.

You see a different view of cities from the train.

I have always had an interest in real trains and railways as well. Although in my lifetime railways have changed beyond belief. Steam engines where very common until I was about 15 years old in Canada.

Real trains are very dangerous as we also played around them when very young at times.

Via rail is the passenger train arm in Canada. They have increased their prices so much few take the train anymore. To me they just want out of the business.

I also have some models I never set up. For anyone interested in model railroading. The model train shows are where to buy supplies. Normal retail prices on decent quality items are very high.

I did an adventure in Colorado in '92 - went to the hippie dippie Rainbow Gathering (not a gay thing) on the Grand Mesa outside of charming little town Paonia.

Afterward, a buddy and I got jobs with the carnival in Grand Junction and went on with them to Durango. I saw the narrow gauge steam train locomotive firing up downtown a couple of times while getting ready for a run up to Silverton. Holy chit, we are talking clouds of black smoke. But did I make any effort to take the trip?

DOH!

Famous narrow gauge tourist line. Tickets for a ride where probably expensive even for the time I imagine. They still also haul a little freight.
